  1. It is not an insurance claim unfortunately so the repair is

out of pocket and long overdue. I was wondering if the centre grill section was the same as the 2002 and if I could  cut that section out to repair the 2000. Short of that I have considered slowly banging the damage out as a hobby.

What are you asking for the panel? Shipping is what it is. Love to see a

    pictire of it.

    thanks

  2. Price: $13000
    Location: Vancouver Canada

    Description:

Throwing in the towel! Bought this car 30 years ago in an estate sale. It was the first loan I ever received from a bank. I don’t know what they were thinking when they gave me a credit card too. Within 6 months I was unable to make the payment and one morning it wasn’t outside. The bank took it. I got up to date and recovered the BMV and sold it to my best friend dad In order to service the liability. It was a heartbreaking moment and it bothered me for many years. At the time of the sale the proud new owner knew how much I loved the car and said if you ever want to buy it back one day let me know. Long story short  25 years later I called him. He knew immediately the nature of my call and we negotiated a price. Turns out in the 25 years he possessed the Tilux he never drove it! It sat in his garage the entire time. Oddly enough, when I purchased the vehicle it was also garaged for 15+ years by a former judge. Fast forward after 4 years of rebuilding and replacing virtually every nut and bolt in this car I finally got to enjoy my child hood dream car.  What a wonderful time it was cut short after several months when I love tapped a car I front of me. Zero damage to their car but old Luxy took it rough. End of story. I did not go through insurance to repair the vehicle  and instead parked it. It’s been a year almost and I simply don’t have the resources or the will to continue this long life love affair. Time to sell or other ideas? I have attempted to source the front panel with no success.  I do have both left and right front fenders however. The list of what was done mechanically to this car is endless. To name a few.. aluminum flywheel, 123 distributor, alpina rims, arbarth exhaust, new pistons, drop subframes, bigger core rad, cv joints early style, IE suspension,  Bilstien shocks. Interior is original and one of a kind as it has been parked most its life

I have inserted images of the car prior to the accident and their is an image of the car showing the damage. I have the replacement grills and headlamps including  original steel rims and wood wheel. The original wheels chrome ring broke off.

Hey Naseem, I have a grill set in Maryland. They are from France and I'm not sure if they are the same, but take a look and let me know if you can use them.

  7. I’ve done enough fiddling around with this 9 prong relay from 1967 in my 2000tilux. Green turn indicator light only works when I turn left or right depending on how I connect it. Been that way since I owned the car. Spent countless hours trying to remedy that and gave up. Now the green indicator ligjt stopped working all together so I thought I’d take another poke  at that 9 pronger unit that looks to be hanging by the thread of a spiders web. Well now I can’t get it to signal either direction and the hazzards stop working as well. The more I touched it the worse it got. It’s basically time to replace the unit. I’ve ordered a replacement unit. They were used in the VW and in the 67 bmw 2000 cars.

anyone have any experience updating the relay system and departing from the 9 connecter relay?

  8.  I love the look of the 2000cs. I’ve never seen one In real life. There is however a fellow here that has a 68 2000 automatic that’s in very good condition and would make for a great restoration. I went and looked at it with the idea of converting it to EV but I can’t bring myself to work on another 2000 and the value just isn’t there based on the conversion cost. He is asking 10k in Canadian dollars but I’m sure he would take a lot less. The transmission won’t engage into any gear but it ran better than my car. Single barrel solex is a little easier to work with.
I’m on the hunt for a Porsche 914 right now. Hard to find one in decent condition that doesn’t have a big tag attached to it. Just want the body don’t want one that runs even. I decided that the 914 would be perfect for an EV conversion.

  9. Thank you for putting it into perspective for me. Was actually really enjoying the drive yesterday. Your engine Looks and sounds great. Nice and clean.

I’m happy if I’m idling at 1000. I noticed you are using copper nuts on the intake manifold and carbs. I’m using the brass ones from iE on the manifold but I like the copper idea for the carbs. I also noticed where you positioned your fuel filter. You have it after the pump where as I have placed mine before the pump. Any reason for that?  I  had two fuel filters at one point and disconnected the original one when I was having issues with air getting pulled into the lines. Replaced all the fuel lines and solved that problem. I still have the original one. I’ll probably just put it in for esthetics and not connect it.

Were you having springs made for

your 2000? I seem to remember a thread regarding front and rear spring replacement. I put the big blue sway bar from IE in the front and kept the original in the rear.

I cut the springs all around to lower the car but regret it as it handled better prior to cutting the springs. Now I want to replace them or find someone that makes coil overs.

  10. Car is running great. I set the timing as per your instruction and no more pop pop bang. I also went

though the valves and adjusted what needed to be adjusted to .006

I put some fresh spark plugs in and it just keeps getting better. It’s a real pleasure to drive now but still not perfect. The carbs are running pretty good but I think I need to set them up from scratch again. I’ve gone through the PHH40 set up twice a while back. Replaced the idle jets a few months ago along with all the other jets and even replaced one of the pump diaphram assemblies on one side as the arm that pushes the pump was bent and was contributing to fuel leak. I’ve taken the pump diaphragm apart a couple times to replace the gaskets. It’s stays dry for a while but i always end up getting slight fuel leak on the bottom of the carbs eventually. I used a piece of glass and 2000 grit sandpaper to get as flat a surface as possible for the gasket and diaphragm. I’m finding that the screws over time due to engine vibrating  loosen. In fact I go through all the bolts every so often and always find that I’m having to tighten things up. Mostly the nuts on the intake and bolts on the timing chain cover. I eliminated a lot of the loose bolts by using red thread lock ok them. I’m happy to continue using the original solex carbs although I feel like brand new Webber’s would really make a difference and bring the way this thing runs closer to perfection. Having said that, it’s the best it’s ever idled. It still sputters a bit while idling. I’m not getting that smooth consistent flow out the exhaust. Still sputtering but not back firing.

attached is what I’ve plugged into my 123 dizzy
