  1. Of course, I have not received any wheels.

Just more total bullsh*t from Frank. I have finally accepted I will never be receiving them.

It's a shame for him that I own the website: www.frankfranker.com  - which will remain indefinitely.

This has been pretty much the most rotten experience of all time. It's really not just the money, it's the continual pretense of hope. Truly horrible. Hugely tainted the last 18 months of ownership of my car; every time I drive it I can't help think about the wheels I paid for which should be on it, instead of which I have an endless stream of lies and false promises.

This guy is a piece of work.

Thanks brother ?  received and if anyone wants it let me know ill be happy to share. I will also keep everyone posted to  what extent I go.. which I plan on going far. Fak the wheel and money this will be more worth it... if he send them then great but he still will get his ass handed to him

Please share the info with me!

Let's work together, @Vanfal. Seems like @danco_ is game too. Certainly there are others.

@danco_ Do you suggest using another platform to co-ordinate? If so, which?

  3. I still don't have my wheels. I'm out well over $5k on the 16" 4x100 BBS RS I paid for in November 2020. For context, I have 15" BBS RS on my 2002 - which I got from Frank in 2018 - and they're top quality. The 16" are for my E30.

I spoke to Frank on the phone a few days ago, and do manage to connect with him sporadically. Those conversations are far more civil than the text exchanges.

I must be a fool at this point but somehow I do still believe he's trying to get wheels to me. Mainly because I can't wrap my head around why we're still in contact. If he was out just to take my money, why keep up this pretense? I can't see what's in it for him. I'm clearly no advocate for his business or brand any longer and it would be far simpler to ghost me.

To me Frank's biggest offense is the utter lack of respect for people's time. I was planning on selling my 2002 after buying the E30 (in November 2020!), but I wanted to snap a few photos of both cars on BBS RS since they were promised in January 2021. Plus my E30 has dangerously old (15") tires which are in dire need of replacing - but the wheels have always been "a few weeks" away. I'd like to make some suspension changes too, but all these things are contingent on the wheels.

I agree that no-one should be "burned at the stake", but people need to be held accountable for their actions. For all the above reasons and more, I won't be letting go without consequence. If I receive my wheels or get refunded in January, I'll move on because life is too short.

Anyway, in the Christmas spirit of things at the moment I'm tending to believe that Frank is simply a chronic over-promiser and compulsive liar who sees the money first and tries to figure out the solutions afterwards, but one who does take pride in his [eventual] work. I do believe he and his business have been affected quite deeply by COVID, and he's dug himself a bit of a hole. I'm hoping that the recent flurry on Facebook is a sign that he's starting to find his way out of it.

Ask me again in month though.

  4. How's your refund going @PipeUy?

Still being strung along like a muppet. $5000 out of pocket. 11 months. Looks like he may come good, but it's besides the point now. Lies upon lies upon lies.

And prioritizing new customers it seems.. Prolific on IG indeed. There are no reasons left why he wouldn't be building & shipping out my wheels unless he still doesn't even have the component parts.

    Who else is still waiting?

  5. Add me to the list.

Transferred a very significant sum of money for some rare wheels. It's been 8 months now, still being strung along with lies.

I have bought with him before, and the quality was/is fantastic. As with others here, still hoping the deal comes good and it will be forgiven. These are unprecedented times after all.

If not, there will be repercussions. Clock is ticking.

@Marsattacks 3 weeks later, no update, presumably?

Sorry to hear about the rubbing. Do you have camber plates? Fixed or adjustable? I also know certain tire manufactures have different sidewalk bulges. Some are more square, while others are more round and bulge out the sidewall. I have have this problem with that sized wheel more often than not..especially stuffed under non-flared fender arches.. just something to check. Some tire shops will try different tires on your wheels to make sure they fit w/o rubbing.
    Regards,
    Matt

No camber plates as far as I know.

These are the same tyres that were on the previous wheels; glad I didn't replace them at the time. The wheel shop I took it to just fitted the wheels and sent me on my way.. with insane rubbing at that time. Had to go back for the spacers & bumpstop. Not impressed & won't be back!

What tires are you currently running?

    195/50's.

Rolling the fenders should help in the rear, and probably in the front, but if you're encountering rubbing on full lock it may be that the tire is rubbing on the inner fender well behind the wheel as well as (or in addition to) the fender lip

Hmm interesting. That could be the case. The rear is very low while the front has a lot more travel room.

I think I'd like to avoid rolling the fenders if I can?

    Hello there!

Some of you may recognize this car, as I think it's shared some history with this forum. I became the lucky owner last October. My respects to Mr Bill Patterson!

In January I received these BBS RS 001's to replace the Rota RB's, but they are rubbing ?. I hadn't expected it since on paper they're both 15x7 ET 25, and there were no rubbing issues with the RB's. I suspect these RS's might actually be slightly closer to ET 20, but I haven't measured. The car is on H&R Sport springs.

Hopefully someone can explain whether this would be consistent with a knocking at the front on full lock and rubbing at the rear (make no mistake, my knowledge here is quite limited). I had 3mm spacers put on the front to better clear the control arm, and a bumpstop at the back to lessen the rubbing. Both made a noticeable difference but are not adequate as a solution. I've been reluctant to drive the car since, not helped by the recent weather in the bay area.

Insofar as I understand, my options are:

Smaller tyres (not many options tho?)

Roll the arches a little (where would I go to get this done in the bay area?!)

    Coilovers ($$$ ?)

Different springs (not sure where to start?)

I'd be very grateful for thoughts and advice on any/all the above, and your opinions on my best course of action here!

In a perfect world I wouldn't have it sit a little lower at the front, too. Thanks! ??

  9. Spent the best part of this evening flicking through the first half of this thread! This forum and all your cars are awesome.

Here's my '02, I believe it's changed hands a few times between members of this forum since being beautifully restored by @billpatterson. Hoping to hang on to it for a while!

Third time lucky in trying to buy one, I picked up 'Hanna' the weekend before getting married. This photo was taken a few days later in Yountville, California with a Nikon 35Ti.

A set of BBS RS's should be on their way from Germany any minute now ^_^ so there will be a set of mint Rota RB's for sale in due course! More photos after the switch.

It's a fancy shmancy programable' distributor that will change you life (and your car's performance). After owning that car for awhile I always  thought that distributor was a 45 year old 'loose goose POS.

One can set up centrifigal and vacuum advance curves. Better than free beer and hookers imho

*consider getting the tune + model as it can be set up via a smart phone ap.

They cost a bit but if you buy outta Europe they are cheaper.... BUT probably harder to claim on the warranty. I bought from the US distributor and paid around 500 (worth ever single penny though). Your car is awesome and deserves one.

    Thanks!

A lot of this is way over my head... ??‍♂️  I have some reading to do.

Who should I trust to install something like this, and how much would I expect to pay?

    I'm in the Bay Area.
