  1. It is an automatic choke. Flaps are closed when cold and do open up when it warms up. I will work the accelerator linkage and report back!
  2. Hi All - I got it up and running (sort of). I tested the pump by isolating it, and it was working. I traced the fuel line back to the tank and did not see any cracks - it doesn't look like it's the original. I took out the part that comes out of fuel tank and feeds the fuel line and cleaned the mesh filter on the bottom. After doing so, I was able to start the car! Now I am back to my original problem from this winter, which is needing to pump the gas 25+ times to start it cold. Once it warms up it seems to run okay (aside from the fact that one cylinder isn't firing). Any theories?
  3. I pulled the fuel line off the carb and carefully directed it into a bottle (so fuel line went from pump to bottle). No fuel entered the bottle when turning ignition / pumping accelerator. Fuel pump looked identical to the old one. When I replaced it, the car behaved exactly as it did before (ran okay, but had to pump gas 25+ times before it would start). I am going to try to figure out how to check the filter in the gas tank, and see what's going on with the fuel lines! Time is limited, but I will report back ASAP. Thanks again everyone!
  4. Thank you both! One of the plastic grommets was missing when I removed the old pump, but I found a similar part and cut it to size. I think I got it pretty darn close. I'll try your fuel pump test, that sounds like a good idea.
  5. Hello all, For a couple months I needed to pump the gas around 25 times to start the car. I tried putting a new fuel pump in and it didn’t help. Now there is no fuel entering the carb whatsoever. What’s my next step? I am very novice with car work but wanting to learn. Also worth noting, I know one of cylinders is firing with low pressure (60 psi). It may be worse since it was measured. Someone told me it sounded like I was running on 3 cylinders not long before it stopped running. I have someone to help me with this problem, which I understand is probably a major issue.
  6. Thank everyone. I tightened the screws down, and the fuel leak seems to have stopped. I'm still needing to pump the gas upwards of 25-30 times to start it though. Do you guys think that's indicative of a bad fuel pump, or should I try taking the carb apart / clean it? What would your order of operations be for diagnosing this? Recent work (last 6 months): fuel hoses, fuel filter, new cap/rotor, new carb filter
  7. Thanks! I'll tinker with it and if it's still giving me trouble, pick up the new one.
  8. Found a pool of gas under the hood - looks like a leaky fuel pump. Is this the right replacement? http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pn.aspx?sku=10122804-13311265192&vehicle=1976 BMW 2002 E10&brand=Pierburg&utm_source=google&utm_medium=nonpaid&utm_campaign=froogleSKU_BMW&gclid=CjwKCAiA9f7QBRBpEiwApLGUio0swhaQ787hItr-lbAo_aMq3qKJ3r-NTfdMRR6oM-PgF30OOOH0RRoCev0QAvD_BwE Is there a reason to get something different? I'd like to keep it simple.
  9. Hey everyone - I'm located in Seattle. Appreciate the offers. Need to wait to see how insurance wants to reimburse me. Sounds like they might be picky about where the glass comes from... but we'll see.
  10. You know, I wonder if that's what happened to mine? It seems awfully weird for someone to smash in that window for no reason - there was no evidence of someone going through the car. Also - the door was unlocked! Insurance should be covering it, but I am supposed to wait for a phone call before I buy a replacement part to confirm they will reimburse me for it. Something about them needing to confirm where it's being sourced? Glass Seekers found one for $325 (including packaging/shipping) which seems pretty fair.
  11. Woke up to a smashed window today (car was parked in front of our house on the street). Its the rear passenger window (quarter panel?). So far Pilkington Classics couldn't help, and Glass Seekers is supposed to call me back. Any other sources out there? Luckily insurance is covering it in full. Thanks everyone!
  12. Anyone have any tips on where to find a replacement lock cylinder? I live in Seattle if there happens to be anyone around here with one to sell. I found this to get me started, going to try to DIY it: http://www.zeebuck.com/bimmers/tech/doorlocks/doorlocks.html Thanks!
