  1. Thanks Steve. I do have a sunroof, so I'll order the missing rubber plug from Walloth/Nesch.
  2. Nothing wrong with removing the black paint from the radiator. Take advantage of the brass tank and polish it.
  3. As the recent owner of a 73 2002, I am still discovering new items that I can't determine a purpose. On either side of the trunk, hidden when the lid is down, there are two holes. One hole was capped by a solid rubber plug and the other was just open. I assume their might have been a plug in both. Any idea what the purpose of these holes are for?
  4. Yes, I made a mistake. I was supposed to post it in the 2002 forum.
  5. All of the items related to my turn signal function normally with exception of the dash blinker light. When I activate a turn signal, the light blinks only once, even though I can hear and see the selected outside turn signal blinking in time to the clicking sound. Any idea where I should start?
  6. I recently modified my center console to accommodate 3 additional gages (oil temp, vacuum, voltmeter). Since my 73 2002 was originally aircondtioned, the center panel didn’t have space to retain the Hazard warning switch. I noticed on pictures of later model 2002’s showing the Hazard switch was located to the left of the steering wheel, opposite the ignition switch, so that is where I decided to relocate mine. Problem: even though the harness was long enough to reach the new location, my 73 panel construction must be deferent than later models. The plastic structure behind has a molded support that has to be ground away and space for the long switch body is restricted by the aluminum brace for the steering wheel, which also needs grinding a 2”x 1/4” relief. The hole to insert the switch was done with a 1 ¼ “ hole saw. Other than having to complete the task upside down, the use of a Dremel tool with a 1 ¼ cutting wheel made the task a fairly simple swap. P.S. If you have an airconditioned model, there isn’t much space behind the panel before gages with straight electrical connection touch. I used 90 degree connectors Edited 16 minutes ago by Whaledriver

  8. My final electrical issue (no turn signals) is solved. Everything works now. It was a combination of a faulty Hazard Warning light switch and poor contact on the right rear turn signal light (had to bend the positive blade inward). According to the electrical diagram, a lot of stuff is routed through that Hazard switch. I have bypassed it until I can locate a new replacement. At least now I can drive it. Today, I also installed: oil pressure , vacuum & voltage gages in the center console replacing the ashtray. Next I have to find a subtle way of installing a cup holder.
  9. I finally resolved the left rear parking light issue. Someone had replaced the 5W bulb with a 20W bulb, so I switched it with the same position right side 5W bulb, along with bending down on the metal contact point and all is well! I still am working on the lack of turn signal issue but I think I have traced it to a bad Hazard switch which I think is the sole source of power to the turn signal flasher unit.
  10. Since purchase, spending garage time tidying up and improving/adding equipment, I have only driven the car twice since purchase. I recently discovered I have not only lost my turn signals but my left rear taillight has a mind of its own. When selecting my parking or headlights light position, the right rear is illuminated but the left taillight is out ? When I removed the taillight assembly, the bulb in the parking light slot comes on. Realizing that the bulb must be OK and checking that I had continuous power to the contact point at the base of the bulb, I reinstalled the assembly to the body and the light went out after 5 seconds! I repeated this several times with the same result (bulb illuminated, assembly reinstalled, bulb out after 4-6 seconds). Is the turn signal issue and left taillight related? I can't legally drive the car until I resolve my turn signal and rear light problem.
  11. I had previously made an offer back in May for the just driver's seat which you declined. I don't see where you have listed a new price for the pair?
  12. I traced the small hoses emanating from the canister. The canister has two pipes. One is attached to a very long hose receiving venting all the way back from the fuel tank. A second short hose runs from the remaining canister pipe to the base of the carburetor providing suction to remove the canister's filtered fuel vented air to be burned in combustion. I guess if you weren't concerned with trapping the vented fuel gases to the atmosphere, you could just eliminate the canister and plug the hole at the base of the carb and eliminate an additional hose cluttering up the engine compartment.
  13. I am still trying to identify items on my recent acquisition. My carb has the following items stamped on its base: 0GAV 3B 32/36 17775 and the removable tag screwed on to the top: Weber 72 HF K 1F 15. Can anyone decify what I have? Also on the rear of the intake manifold, I have a piece of rubber tubing with a metal blocking rod in it (see picture #17). I had previously removed it because it looked out of place and replaced it with a rubber cap that blew off when I stared the car. Apparently it has to be blocked off but what was the original purpose of this port? I also noticed that the distributor vacuum advance port doesn't have a hose attached. Will I have a problem running with the port being attached to a vacuum source ?
  14. Are these early turn flat lens turn signal casings the same as later model with the bulging lenses? Basically what I am asking is, will these flat orange lenses fit in my pristine1973 case or are the internal contours different?
  15. To answer the question, the separator is a Moroso model #85474. I chose this model because it is only 5" x 3 in length and the two outlets are 180 degree apart vs other model vertical in line. The drain spigot is at the bottom.
  16. Forum members advice on establishing a good ground solved my starting issue. During the battery relocation , I had removed some corrosion in the engine compartment and painted over the frame spot that my body to engine ground cable was to be attached. I went back and ground down the spot to bare metal and reattached the ground cable. The starter works fine now!
  17. My 1973 2002 has had most of its pollution equipment removed. Left still mounted was a timer, which knowledgeable FAQ members suggest removing, as it had no present function. In its place I have installed a 5" air oil vapor separator tank. Since the install, I have noticed a reduction of the collection of oil residue in my carb air cleaner.
  18. I don't have an owners manual related to my recent acquisition. My 1973 2002 was originally air conditioned. but later removed. As a result, the center console is appropriate for an A/C equipped model. Since nothing associated with the A/C is working, I can't identify the function of the push button style switch on the right lower section of the center console. Can anyone identify it and the other two above rotating buttons?
  19. I don't know if it is related but after locating my battery to the trunk, my starter initially turns over slowly like it has a weak battery and then speeds up to normal speed for a good start. In the old engine compartment battery location, I have installed a rotating "kill" switch that connect the battery to the starter. The relocated battery is grounded in the trunk. Prior to the alteration, it started normally. Could it be a coincidence and might I have a starter beginning to fail? What else might be the issue?
  20. Thanks to all for the clarification. I'll get rid of the vacuum solenoid on the firewall and keep the fuel return valve. Why should I attach a vacuum line from the base of the carb to the fuel return valve as FunkyLane suggests?
  21. I have only had my 1973 2002 a little over a month. As I get familiar with what has to be corrected and detailed, there are a few items I can't identify as to their purpose. The car has obviously been de-smogged and being registered as an historical vehicle, it is not required to have the smog devices. Here are a couple of pics of items that I don't have a clue as to their purpose. The first pic is on the firewall and has two wires connected at the base but the two ports for a hose are absent of a hose. The second pic is below and in front of the carb and being fed by the fuel pump. Viewing other models, I don't see similar routing or device. Appreciate any advice.
  22. Mirrors' arrived today. They were just as described. Thank you for your integrity,
  23. Would you consider arranging shipping and have any idea what the shipment cost for the two seats would be from North Carolina to Utah?
  24. I can't tell from the pictures but do they both include seat rails accommodating a no hassle install in a 73 2002? Were they previously installed in a 2002 with a full length A/C style center console without width interference? Thanks, Gregg
