1972 BMW 2002tii /// 5-speed /// 3.91 LSD /// Recaros
Enthusiast-owned and maintained
#s matching (engine/chassis)
Purchased in late 2016, stored in a navy storage unit from the late 80s through the 00s
Done under current ownership (5.5 yrs):
Electrical:
New hi-beam and turn signal switches (OEM)
123 Distributor
New Bosch red ignition coil
Classic Auto LED tail lights (factory look but brighter lights for better visibility under braking)
2 VDO gauges - oil pressure and voltage
AEM AFR gauge w/ O2 sensor plumbed for more accurate tii tuning
Gauges are non-invasively wired and can easily be removed for a more classic look
Radio does not work
Rebuilt cold-start module using FAQ member's custom circuit board (approved and tested by many forum members)
Would do next: fix connection at fuel pump in trunk, new alternator and bracket/bushings (bracket/bushings included), removed corner-marker lights/reflectors to fill holes in body for cleaner Euro look (complete this)
Cooling system:
3-core radiator (rebuilt)
New OEM brass heater core valve
Fully rebuilt heater core (hot tanked/leak checked)
Box repaired/painted and finished to a high degree using aftermarket heater box rebuild kit
New blower motor (updated OE-equivalent)
Refreshed bowden cables and levers
Heater blows nice and hot, vents all work as they should
Suspension:
13" Revolution Racing Vintage wheels (circa 1980s)
Pirelli Cinturato CN36 185-70-R13 (less than 5k mi)
Bilstein/IE stage 1 spring combo w/ 1 Dot rear spring spacers
Rebuilt rear sub-frame w/ poly bushings in trailing arms and diff hangers, rubber bushings w/ poly inserts in subframe bushings for a superb feel on street
New OEM engine mounts
Would do next: sway bars/sway bar bushings, strut bearings
Interior:
Rebuilt console (not perfect and does show some signs of wear)
Sound deadening tar removed, por-15 applied to floors (no rust repair necessary) dynamat used to replace OEM material
Esty salt and pepper carpet kit
Swapped upper dash piece w/ OEM Euro dash piece w/ no seatbelt sign cut-out for cleaner look (original OEM upper dash included and in good condition)
E21 Recaros (un-restored)
Both dashes are un-restored and do have some cracks but present well
Fully rebuilt and working mechanical clock (Hollywood Speedo)
Speed Hut GPS drive for OEM speedo (retains factory speedo w/ no physical speedometer hookup available on the Getrag 240 5 speed)
All gauges work, all cluster lights work and are bright (no LEDs)
Nardi 380mm wood steering wheel
Original door panels, upgraded door brakes and refreshed locks and handles
Spare working instrument cluster in case you need to rob parts/gauges in the future
Would do next: OEM front door panels, professional carpet install, radio
Drivetrain:
#s matching original engine
Head and valve train fully rebuilt in 2020 (less than 1k mi)
Fresh factory Bosch injectors calibrated and matched to factory specs
Refreshed throttle linkage from pedal box to KF using OEM parts
New Getrag 240-5 speed from Metric Mechanic (full kit including 225mm clutch, aluminum flywheel, and custom slip-yoke drive shaft)
Freshly rebuilt 3.91 LSD (also have a freshly rebuilt 3.64 LSD, 4spd, 4spd driveshaft and parts)
Fully-tuned KF, pulls strong through all 5 speeds and maintains a sub-14 AFR constantly
Slight oil leak around the front timing cover and #4 cylinder, does burn some oil under deceleration (tell-tale sign of piston rings in need of replacement) and does drop some oil currently
S14 starter
Supersprint center pipe and muffler (new in 2020; also have new less than 1k mi OEM center pipe and muffler)
Fresh front brake calipers, rotors, pads, fresh rear drums and shoes, all wheel bearings also replaced, less than 2k mi on parts
Would do next: pull motor do a full rebuild, or piece-meal it by doing KF rebuild, bottom-end rebuild, misc work
Body:
Paint was last done in the 80s, can be shined to a degree but will get cloudy over time
All brightwork is in-tact and presents well, could use a professional re-touch if desired or roll with the patina; shallow headlight grill has no damage; H4 headlights
Have new OEM lower knee trim and fasteners that will be included
Trunk floor was repaired due to the usual 02 trunk rust but was done in the 80s and not to a high degree, so the potential is there to do it correctly now if desired
Gas tank is not the tii tank, but I do have the correct tii tank (needs refreshing)
Small pinhole of rust on the passenger lower rocker, has not grown over my ownership
Small dent on rear left quarter panel, small dent on front right quarter panel (had rear dent knocked out, did not address front)
No major rust repair other than trunk
Spares:
3.64 LSD (rebuilt, ready to use/sell)

Spare injectors
Spare instrument cluster
Original 2pc top dash piece (unrestored but useable condition)

Misc fluids
QuickJack system for easy fluid swaps/maintenance (can be included or not)
Several buckets/tubs of all parts (kept most everything, all goes with the car)
