  1. **Bump Anyone? I've had some replies but no winner. I've got to get my 1600 on the road! Thanks
  2. Yes, I need a 'tuna can' brake booster for a 1968 1600. One that is known to work would be terrific.
  3. Hi all - I've searched the archives but I can't find some info on how to clean out and refurbish this little box. The lever doesn't move. It looks like one side can be pried off but there are two pins that hold one end in place. Thanks for the help!
  4. Hydraulic pedal box Brake booster MC
  5. Hey all - Still in need of a pedal box, MC, and booster for my switch from manual to hydraulic clutch. Please send pics and your ask. Thanks,
  6. Mike, thanks. Here's what I see looking at the hub: the male connector is on the left side pointing towards the dash. The female lead fits, tightly, in a gap between the left stalk and the center. I can't see this going another way but it's a tight fit. As for the spring loaded nib on the back of the steering wheel, that's fixed in place. I really can remember how this fits together...
  7. Hi everyone - I'm re-installing the steering wheel on my '68 1600 and....I can't find the pics when I removed it, dang it. 1. where do I thread the horn lead thru -- inside the stalk assemblies or outside? (right or left side?) 2. How does the inner ring with the copper align with the wheel? 3. any other tips? See pictures. Thanks for the help!
  8. Hi - I'm converting and upgrading my '68 1600 mechanical clutch/brake system to hydraulic. Looking for: 02 pedal box brake booster Master cylinder (E21, E30 ok) Front calipers (E21, E30 ok)
  9. Great, thanks. I'll need to get a big lug tool to crimp it. These 3 red wires connect ignition, fuse box to + terminal which is why I need to get it done right. Thanks again!
  10. Yes, thanks. I'm thinking of replacing all three since I have the loom out. What would you say are the gauges? What size lug?
  11. Well, while I'm here, this is what the 3-red wire to battery + looks like on the harness I'm installing. Yikes. The trio should be joined on one ring connector, right?
  12. Yes, indeed, this grey/red wire is an extender and branches off the license plate wires. I still can't see where the female connector is or goes. Thanks for the cleaning/disassembly tips. Onward.
  13. My 68 doesn't have the side markers, etc but the harness is from perhaps a later 1600 that did, which is why I didn't recognize it. I assume I'll leave it disconnected. I was wondering if these junction blocks can be pulled apart to clean. Each wire appears to have a barb that holds in the block. There are two other such blocks in my car: a 3-way in the engine and a 5 way under the dash. I'm in Chicago, btw. Thanks for the help!
  14. Hey all - I'm replacing wiring in my 1600 and the new (old) loom has a few connectors like the one pictured. This one is in the trunk and I don't know what connects to it. What are these connectors used for? Any reason to disconnect them ( and if so, how?) Thanks
  15. Hi - I'm looking for a replacement heater box, core, and fan. Let me know if you can help.I have a '68 1600. Thanks!
  16. Hi all - The engine from my '68 1600 is out while the engine area is repaired of some rust and painted. I'm still learning abut this car since I bought it late last year; engine runs but the car hasn't been road-worthy (brakes, etc). The shop owner will let me use his shop to clean up the engine. He suggested I can use his sand blaster on some of the brackets and other parts while they're easy to get to. This is new to me: what would you do? Which parts should/could be cleaned safely. And as for sand blasting...? All suggestions welcome. Thanks!
  17. Hi all - I'm pulling the engine to clean and fix up the engine bay and I want to replace the mounts. My '68 1600 has a round left side mount. I've read to the forum that square mounts are from later cars. Any preferences or recommendations between the two? Could I fit a square on the left side? Thanks!
  18. Hey guys - I'm pulling the wiring from a '68 1600 and the last wire I can't figure out is this one: A single wire that branches off a main artery in the engine bay, thru the bulkhead and into the passenger footwell and into and behind a side panel. The only thing to power is the dome light but mine is above the driver’s door! Where does this single wire go? Thanks!
  19. Hello all - I expect to be moving to the DC Metro area sometime this year. I picked up a '68 1600 last year and I'm in need of some help. First, a early search for housing doesn't turn up many garages. Where do you keep your toys? I'm talking about the Arlington-Alexandria area and parts of Fairfax Co. My car is in pre-paint stage and will need a full brake and suspension re-build. Your suggestions for good shops will be appreciated. Thanks!!
