Nice. Last summer I put my old klippen seat belts into a bucket of water with Tide detergent to clean them. The difference was amazing and the water was extremely dirty. Very satisfying. I hadn’t considered painting the vinyl. Thanks for the post.

New to 02's but contemplating a five-speed in my currently automatic 76 2002. I read that four speeds fit just fine but five speeds need more room. Except in automatic cars where BMW had to enlarge the tunnel to fit the slushpump.
Apologies I’m not familiar with the auto transmission cars - suggest SearchOmg the forum.

How do you like the Korhman intake ? Looking at that or maybe the IE one. If you dont mind what did that cost they don't post prices well. Great build
I have only just recently started the car for the first time. No formal opinions yet on the intake. I bought it from a fellow 02 owner for $50 - he never used it and it was on his shelve for years. Think that may have been a friend price. Sorry for the late reply.

Rolling helps. Control arms, torsion bars, sway bar should all be left loose until it’s been rolled a bit.
Ok - will do

Did you tighten down the suspension
Not really - center/ tie rods are still loose. Someone else said to me the car needs to roll to settle?

Some excellent progress Dion! Wonder why that brake hard line was kept so long? Do you think a PO purchased a generic length pipe instead of getting the correct length?
Thank you. Re hard line length. Probably as good a guess as any - this was the first time I had ever seen my rear subframe off the car. i wasn’t sure if that’s just how it was done. Needless to say I’m replacing all those lines old lines with new ones in the next few weeks.

I have to read about your choice of CV parts and why in a prior post.
The new boots look good, The clamps offered always make me nervous. If I change boots I have to go with Oetiker clamps for peace of mind.
I’ve never heard of these... will check them out.

I realized as soon as I posted the picture that my twilight alignment is a bit challenged. That will be a small satisfying correction in the am. Cheers

Hi Kevin - sounds like we are going to have similar set ups. My head is machined my metric mechanic, korman intake, 292 cam (was going to go 304 but chickened out) I also have a lightened flywheel and a stalh header finished off with a 123-tune.

Did the bodyshop completely re-do what you had already done?
For the most part yeah.

just send them my vin ?
Yup....tell them you just bought the car and ask what details they may be able to share about the car.

Awesome ! And congratulations- I think.
Looks like it will be a fun one.
Bonus on the 5 speed trans, those sell for what you bought the car for these days.
have you had a chance to see what kind of differential is installed?
If you are lucky you may already have a schrick Cam (because of it’s racecar pedegree).
looking forward to reading about your progress.
if you haven’t already you can email Bmw to find out when your car was made and imported.

good luck!

It’s bitter sweet for sure.
I was discouraged and briefly contemplated selling off the project. The budget I’m now using for a professional paint job was earmarked for new engine. I’ll make due with the engine I have for a while.
The car is now at Hardcore Hotrods in Sterling, VA awaiting their assessment and quote.
Cringe.....

Got the GETRAG 245 out yesterday - glad I had a friend stop in to help me pull it. The car is on jack stands in the driveway, after enduring some of his redneck jokes - (I'm actually proud of my Southern MD roots) we wrestled it our from under the car without to much trouble. I didn't have the 17mm hex head socket to drain the trans before hand though. I'll get that later - order one from amazon last night.

Yeah the clippers and the rotors needed to be custom fit - there are a few threads that discuss it. But at the end of the day it was grind, test fit, grind….test fit. sorry for the late reply - I missed the notification on this one.
