  1. So I read somewhere (in this link) that for the G260, it is recommended to torque to 125 ft/lbs, loosen 1/2 turn, and tighten to 90 ft/lbs. Do these ratings and steps also apply to the G245? Thanks!
  2. +1 for K20/K24 swap. I'm working my way towards a K24 swap, having the motor, and drivetrain about ready to begin mocking up. Been hoping to see more people pursuing it over the S2k swap because it's more affordable and available. I also have a miata and have considered swapping in a BP motor/transmission and turbo'ing it, but I like the benefits of a k motor and the speed academy youtube channel inspired me to go that route.
  3. Question for those who have worked on transmissions... I've taken the front casing of my Getrag 245 5-speed off and will be putting it back together soon, using one of the paper gaskets from the Ireland Engineering. Anyone recommend using an additional sealant? Is a thin layer of ultra black RTV okay with the paper gasket (I've read some arguments against using RTV and some having no issues; perhaps it depends on how thinly it is applied)? I've used this for other applications, but this is the first time I've messed with a transmission, so I'm unsure if there are some new risks involved. If I use only the paper gasket, will it then leak? Thanks in advance!
  4. Thanks! Is it reusable after taking it out or do you recommend replacing it? I just need to move the race from this case to another...
  5. Hoping someone could help me out here... I need to get the layshaft end race (circled in photo) out of this casing. Other photo shows the view from the outside. Just so I don't break anything, does this end cover just pop off if I hit it from the inside (knock from the side that the circlip is on)? Thanks!
  6. XD Oh, right... I forgot to mention that I do have a 245 5-speed, but still looking into the possibilities.
  7. Oh wow, did you swap the bell housing to get that to work? I found this on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/i/283490585399?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=283490585399&targetid=484372169199&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9033277&poi=&campaignid=1498383093&mkgroupid=60666402667&rlsatarget=pla-484372169199&abcId=1139446&merchantid=6296724&gclid=CjwKCAjwm4rqBRBUEiwAwaWjjPcoebKg82Ap4WSEeMmu04aGw_7k4EnGYrSqrSbRTOJ9apMwHDrzYxoC4loQAvD_BwE
  8. Question for those that have swapped in a Getrag 260 (m20 folks)... how many were successful in enlarging the trans tunnel enough with a hammer/dolly? Pics would be appreciated!
  9. Thanks all for the responses! I just need two bearings because I'm an idiot and probably ruined them during install. Just want the most inexpensive replacements!
  10. Hi all, I was looking for wheel bearings for the rear of the 02 and noticed a significant price difference between the ones in the Ireland Engineering set and the one in this ebay (less than $12 a piece) listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-BMW-E10-E21-1602-2002-2002tii-320i-Rear-Wheel-Bearing-Koyo-91053-634-008/362013410913?fits=Model%3A2002|Make%3ABMW&hash=item5449ae4661:g:yVUAAOSwRLZUKWL3 The ones that IE provides are Koyo as well, and the listing says it fits; however, I did notice that the part number is different than what I've seen in some article photos. Anyone have experience with this they can share?
  11. If anyone is in need of subframes (front one from an early 1600-2, and one from a 2002), let me know and I'll consider bringing.
  12. You said to leave out the blue sleeves? I say use them! just don't install them while they're together. EDIT: Just saw your earlier post. I second the method.
  13. When installing the bushings with the blue sleeve, you're supposed to first separate the sleeve from the rest of the bushing, and then press the blue sleeves into the subframe. Once that's done, the rubber should sit fine. If you try to just force them in as one piece, they won't go in all the way and the plastic will start mushrooming out. I've learned this the hard way.
  14. I already have the driver side patch panels and need inner and outer for the passenger side. I'm not 100% sure how much material I need on the ends yet. I also saw that there are some on ebay and they're not that expensive... maybe they suck?
  15. Hi All, Does anyone have recommendations on which site to buy rear wheel arch patch panels from (inner and outer)? I'm seeing a wide range of pricing but wanna know if anyone's happy with the fitment of what they bought. Thanks!
  16. I'll have to try that thinner and scotch pad method!
  17. I'm trying to refresh my steering box and I have gotten this far... is removing the bearings necessary to be able to replace the smaller seal? I'm not sure how to get this bearing race off. Do most people take a punch and hit it from the inside of the box? I'm afraid of hitting the bearings on accident. Please let me know if I'm thinking this through correctly. Thanks!
  18. They look like will be awesome. Do they seem to fit well? Please keep me updated on the installation process! I'm considering getting some.
  19. What flares are those? They look like Rabbit flares but possibly not metal...?
  20. My car is a '68, but I bought the subframe from somebody and I'm building it up. He had no idea what year it was from, but I did buy both the early and later sets of bushings. The early ones were definitely too small. So when I crank down the bolt, it sits better, although it pops back out when I loosen it. Should be okay??
  21. I knew the bushings would be a tight fit and I went for it...Probably should have lubed them at least. This is as far as they'd go before the plastic would just mushroom out. Anyone know how critical is it that they seat all the way? The metal tubes look pretty close on the inside. Any advice?
