    Yes Toby8 that would be well and truly the best option but from over here. My Panelbeater would be much happier that way too. I've done a bit of searching but I can't seem to find a roof over your way to send. Any thoughts where I should look? Your input is appreciated.

    Thanks Toby8 i would have thought a welded in cassette sounds like the easiest option when I have t replace the whole roof from pilar to pillar including the frame and the hood lining etc anyway. My Panelbeater is a good craftsman. Is it not just a matter of positioning the cassette in the right spot in the replacement 02 roof and re skin the actual sunroof panel with 02 shape? I know that sounds easier than it will be in practice but that is the basic mechanics of it yes? If the fabrication to connect the e30 cassette to the 02 roof costs me around $1500 it will be only a small part of this full Restoration and a lot better than slotting some cheap aftermarket glass panel pop roof in there?

    Thanks for your input guys. Food for thought. The roof is in a bad way so a transplant is inevitable anyway. I'd love to put a factory roof in but they just aren't available. I've had a sunroof in 2002 before and loved everything a about it. Any better sunroof options then?

    I'd love to transplant a whole roof with a sunroof fitted but none available here in antipodes. The e30 roof is tidy and will look great if I skin it right. I have access to a non sunroof 02 roof for $400. I will be fitting and checking it in in the workshop before I cut my own roof off to allow for disasters. That way I can chuck it all if it doesn't work. It might affect the authenticity of the car but no more than a webasto that is on there in my opinion? I'm changing the colour so won't be 100% authentic anyway.

    Yes I was thinking of cutting the correct size sunroof in the replacement roof and only using the rails and fittings from the e30 sunroof not the e30 panels at all. I'm guessing the curvature of the 02 roof will only matter at the front of the e30 mechanicals? That part might be quite easy to match the curvature? The drains etc would be easy to re route. I'm not a fan of webasto and it's going to cost me over $1000 to rebuild it. All the fittings and frame etc is knackered.

    Hi guys. I have an 02 that needs a full restoration. The roof had an old webasto vinyl sunroof that is perished and ruined. Would be an expensive replacement job. I have access to a non sunroof replacement roof and I also have access to a manual e30 sunroof and parts associated with it. Is it feasible to transplant the e30 sunroof mechanicals onto my replacement roof and end up with a nice factory looking sunroof that tilts and slides???
