Oh I have a rear section...and the 3 bolt flange. But taking this apart to do it? The engineers at Getrag have made sure that such a task requires god know how many special tools...
Well I learned the hard way...Nylon lock nuts wont do the job after a while on your guibo bolts! On the freeway exit ramp near my house...the transmission starts making a little noise. Wierd. Well, its only 1 mile to my house, so I continue on. I park it in the garage...and have alook at things. A small pool of oil is already on the floor. Uh oh. Heres what happened. A a guibo nut backed itself off....and got into things, causing carnage. Ugh. Dont be me. Switch to Stover nuts.
Another Getrag 245 for me...$$$$$$$$$$$$$
No trouble at all. I drove it over as a bare car, with the minimal amount to keep it drivable....pretty much just the lights on it. NO glass at all (not even a windshield). I drove it back over with the front and rear windows in (I provided the shop the glass & new gaskets)
This is why I always take the whole front subframe engine/ transmission assembly out .... trying to line up two with it in the car always winds up being a major pita.
Oh yeah slap in a newshift rod seal before you install! Don't bother to take the old one out, you can stack like up to 3 in their! Totally worth doing, even if you don't see any leaks right now.
I dont know if anyone has said this yet, but the 245 might not sit exactly center in the transmission tunnel .You might see it sit towards the drivers side a bit. You can get a it a adjustment by loosening your motor mounts, and prying things around, but dont sweat it to much.
I've got one of my Alfa's down there right now....a lot of rust and previous shoddy repairs are being fixed. Progress was very good, and updates via pics over Whatsapp were being sent to me every other day. Then Covid 19 hit, and its delayed until god knows when.
I just pulled the coil wire before the 1st start up, and cranked until I saw pressure on my gauge, then plugged in the coil wire, and fired her up. I'm pretty sure that's how it done..if not, someone tell me the error of my ways
So I've got a busted cold start valve. Its stuck wide open. So I need a new one...and I have noticed that an OEM one is rather pricey. I see a number of valves that look like they are similar/same, but I was wondering whats the best option?
