  2. Beautiful job! I can't believe the progress since I saw you last. Well done! Bob
  3. 9-noon at Vehicle Vault in Parker. Get there early...this one always fills up! Bob
  4. I have a friend who is German. He offered this translation: I am not sure if the description is really linked to the diagram. The x-axle of the diagram shows how much vacuum the vacuum-pump has to produce in relation to the distributor shaft speed. The vacuum adjusts the timing of the sparks for higher engine speed. The centrifugal weights are adjusting the timing of the sparks for lower engine speed. The text describes how to check the engine speed limiter. Here is the english translation: 1) Checking of the assembled engine speed limiter on the test bench EFZV 10: Adjust the spark-gap to 6 mm, raise the speed to 3200 rpm. (They mean here the speed of the distributor, which is half of the engine speed). No dropouts for the sparks are supposed to happen up to this speed. 2) Raise the speed of the distributor more. At 3400 rpm the first dropouts of the sparks have to happen. The dropout have to become more when you increase the distributor speed more. Repeat the test while you decrease the distributor speed. Here is the translation of the diagram: The German word „Verteilerwellenverstellung“ means adjustment of the distributor-shaft. „Verteilerwelle“ is the distributor-shaft „Unterdruck“ is vacuum U / min is rpm (consider that it is the speed of the distributor, then engine runs with double speed) the distance of the contacts needs to be at least 0.4 mm the dwell angle needs to be in the range of 59 to 65 degree (or 66-72% if the dwell tester shows %) I do not know what the 3rd little picture under the diagram means Hope the translation can save the problem. BTW, the best dictionary that translates German/English in both directions is http://www.leo.org it is from the university in Munich and it’s free.
  5. My car is a 76. The PO swapped out what I believe are earlier European bumpers & welded up the body at the front. Looks really great IMO. Bob
  6. I talked to my independent mechanic & Safelite & Schomp...all of whom were willing to replace the windshield & all were about the same price: ~$400, as I recall. Let us know what you do...I haven't done mine yet. Bob
  7. I'm late to this party. Does anyone have the contact info mentioned above for the guy selling tail light lenses? Mine is a 1976. Thanks!
  8. Last month's C&C was really well attended! However, there were only three 2002s! Hope to see you there! Bob 1976 2002 Pastelblau Vehicle Vault 18301 Lincoln Meadows Parkway Parker, Colorado 80134
  9. Welcome John! Nice to have you join the group. Hope to see you up north here sometime. Looking forward to pics of your car! Bob
  10. I hope to see lots of you guys on Saturday. Last month's C&C was really well attended...get there early! Bob Vehicle Vault 18301 Lincoln Meadows Parkway Parker, Colorado 80134
  11. Does anyone have successful experience with a paintless dent repair business in the south Denver metro area? Thanks! Bob
  12. I have a Momo wheel & have been looking for a quality 2" horn button. Where have you found them, Doug?
  13. I too have a 76 2002 & live in Denver metro. Yes, the seller is supposed to have the car tested & passed before the sale, but I didn't learn this until after I purchased the car. My car failed the test twice & the Air Care Colorado guy told me the car needs "more spark". I installed Pertronix electronic ignition which helped bring the numbers down. Email me for the rest of the story. Bob rwgnaegy at g mail dot com
  14. Update: I installed the straps from Aardvarc Racing. It was an easy job: about 30 minutes per seat, including removing each seat from the car & re-installing it. The straps helped, but didn't provide the improved support that I was hoping for. I plan to put some dense upholstery foam between the existing seat cushion & the new straps to see if that helps. I feel like I need a booster seat!
  15. Hi Brian. I'm a new owner, having just purchased my '76 2002 this past fall. So far, I haven't needed a mechanic but have gotten referrals on these two guys: Karl Bosch (303) 594-1340 <markuskmbosch1@gmail.com> 3933 South Lipan Street Englewood Colorado 80110 Autoworks Denver (303) 932-9990 8110 Shaffer Parkway/100 Littleton Colorado 80127 I have no experience with either of them, but I have heard their names tossed about. Keep us posted on what you find out about jetting, idle, etc. I live in Lone Tree & work in LoDo. Welcome back. Hope to see you around! Bob
  16. Thanks for the referral, 024EVER. My upholstery is in very nice condition & upon closer inspection, I think what my seats need is new suspension straps underneath. I've ordered these from Aardvark Racing & hope that they solve my problem. Bob
  17. I'm looking for a good upholstery shop in Denver to re-stuff my Recaros. Does anyone have experience with a local shop? Bob
  18. What can I use to prevent rust at the holes in the door where the bracket mounts?
  19. Some more info: The emissions failure reports say: HC PPM: 1053.8 at idle (600 is the limit) "High HC (hydrocarbon) reading s are a result of unburned or partially burned fuel." CO%: 7.16 (2.00 is the limit) "High CO readings occur when the air/fuel mixture is too rich." The carb is a Weber 32/36. The comment from the technician: "Exhaust gas readings indicate a rich air/fuel mixture & a low spark output from ignition system."
  20. It's passed the visual inspection twice. I think they see either the charcoal filter canister or the A/C compressor & think it's the air pump. I don't know how it's jetted. How do I tell? What does it mean to be jetted for altitude? When he elaborated on "more spark", the technician suggested Pertronix electronic ignition & MSD multiple spark system. I'm having those two systems put on as we speak. I hope to pick up my car tomorrow (Saturday) & get it re-tested.
  21. I recently purchased a 76 2002 that does not have any emissions equipment in place. It won't pass the Colorado emissions test. It has failed twice. The technician at Clean Air Colorado, who happens to be a BMW enthusiast, told me it "needs more spark". I'm currently installing Pertronix electronic ignition & MSD multiple spark system. Anyone have any other ideas? I'm eager to get my car on the road. Thanks, Bob
