FYI- Finally after much frustration with State Farm (the person that hit me) I have given this claim to Hagerty. I spoke to them and they agreed to get me the satisfaction I deserve. State Farm does everything they can to defer responsibility. They even said they could help with diminished value. I'll update on that so others will see what happened. Goes to body shop 6/9 Moving forward.... Thanks for the advice and comments. Gary

Thanks for the input. It will shock me if I can't get diminished value for a classic car. Especially one as original as this. There was a class action lawsuit in Georgia against State Farm and in the outcome a formula was produced that SF loves to refer to. I looked it up and it was all modern cars. SF refers to it as if it was a law. It was only a ruling. I think I will have to get Hagerty involved. Others have done this with good results. Gary

Thanks everyone for the great information and suggestions. I am being patient. I just sent a letter to State Farm outlining the problems. Invoice for parts I have ordered was sent as well. The car is insured by Hagerty so I have considered turning it over to them. Just finding a shop to work on the car was not easy. 50 year old cars and not in the "system". Knowing the problems with parts I have ordered many of them. Body panel from W&N and a bumper from Bluntech. State Farm has reimbursed me for the bumper. As that is all they had knowledge of.

I was rear-ended late Feb on way home from small car gathering. It was not severe damage and I drove home after calling police. Driver was charged with following to close. The insurance company (not mine) State Farm has told me there won't be any diminished value. Blanket statement. The 2002 is a 72 Tii and is very original. Matching numbers, Golf yellow, original paint. It has some patina with some small rust spots, chipped paint but overall was very original. One of the reasons I bought the car in 2020. I've done some research and am not going to cave on this. A diminished value actually in this case may be more than the repairs. Looking for some others who may of had some experience with this. Thanks Steve. I'm aware of the change in 73. And aware that a Tii bumper is the same as a 2002 of same year. I just love saying Tii.

72 Tii that I have been working on recently after owning for 2 years. I'm usually pretty good with repairs and have completed many so far but this one has me stumped. I completely restored an E9 a few years ago but it has Scheel seats that are different. I released drivers seat to get in back seat. Now it won't return to driving position. It's stuck at vertical Removed seat and disassembled mechanism on both sides. Nothing seems broken, a little stuck but some cleaning with brake clean and lubricating took care of that. On drivers side is a lever at seat level that I thought controlled the seat back position. It does move and releases a geared cylinder connected to the cross shaft. I don't see anything wrong with this?? Photo # 1&2 It does move and releases from the shaft. Photo 4 is the cylinder removed so it isn't stripped. Photo 5 is the passenger side of seat that does not have this gear. Photo 6 is the spline that the cylinder fits over and it is not stripped. If I remove each side I can pull the the top part (attaches to seat back) back. I can feel the spring keeping it vertical. Both sides move. When brackets are installed on seat bottom both sides, the part that attaches to the seat back (top) is vertical. Not reclined about 20-30 degrees like a seat back would be. Hope someone can help. I called a local friend that owns multiple 2002's but he hasn't had to deal with this. Thanks, Gary

Windshield washer pumps that were NLA for a long time were also in many Porsche's. You can get them again now.

And the original question was??? How to restore the plastic intake runners. Plastic can easily be polished back to it's original finish an number of ways. If you start off too course it will be harder and take a lot of time. Use some 0000 steel wool dipped in mineral spirits to help flush away the dirt and bring the plastic back. White rubbing compound and a good bit of labor will get them back to their satin black look. Too much polishing and they will get very shiny. I'll help you Tom, since were neighbors. I have restored some plastic pieces on my E9 this way. Gary
