Okay, so I bought this car last summer with the intention of shipping it out to CA to be my next project. Life and family priorities have shifted, and I am realizing that I do not have the time to take this on right now. Before I invest any more money in having it transported, I wanted to post it and see if anyone wanted to take it off my hands and deal with picking it up. If there is no interest, I will have it shipped soon and I will probably just end up parking it for awhile until I have more time.
Basic Information:
The BMW 2002 US VIN 2584903 was manufactured on August 03rd, 1972 and delivered on August 21st, 1972 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Golf, paint code 070, non-sunroof car
Previous owner purchased the car from a dealer in Portland Oregon via ebay in the early 2000’s and kept it in a barn up just outside Minneapolis. I have some information documenting the sale through an ebay listing printout which refers to the car as “mint” condition at the time. It looks like the prior owner only put about 5,000 miles on it since the purchase. I bought the car from the estate of the prior owner and they were able to give me the title which has not yet been transferred.
Interior is in very nice condition, aside from a typical dash crack and some surface rust on the chrome seat side trims. A Frigiking AC is installed, otherwise it appears to be bone stock. No body damage and the paint is in good condition. Original color, engine, 4 speed, seats, wheels, etc…
Car was resprayed in original Golf yellow at some point, and based on the previous sale info, I assume this happened before the previous owner purchased it. Some light surface rust under the hood and in a few other areas, but no major rust issues in the typical places on the doors, rockers, rear shock towers, and spare tire well. It is a solid car.
I had the car towed to a mechanic in Minneapolis who was able to get it running. Compression check came back good. The car was sitting for the last few years, so I would recommend going through the brakes, doing a tune up, and checking things out a bit before driving it around.
It needs some attention, but with a little work it would make an excellent driver or it would be an awesome base for a full restoration. Plus, it is an original Golf yellow car which is very cool in my opinion.
Car is currently in Minneapolis at my mechanic’s shop.

Buyer to arrange for transport and I will mail the title/previous sale documents accordingly. We can figure out a way to handle the transfer securely.
These pictures were all taken right last year before I had it towed from the barn where it was stored.
