  1. Since we now have no snow in NY I took the car out for a spin. The clutch engages very close to the floor, likely hydraulic related. I took a look around to look for leaks. Master and slave look dry but there is fluid leaking from around the gearbox. It's definitely brake fluid so a leak from one of the clutch systems. Any ideas?
  2. Update on the squealing carrier bearing. I was preparing to remove the driveshaft to remove the bearing and noticed that one of the bolts was't very tight. I thought before going too much further I would loosen both, preload and tighten the existing bearing. Took the car out for a drive and the squeal has gone. I am assuming that the loose fastener was allowing the bearing bracket vibrate causing the noise. For now I'm going to just drive it as is and monitor.
  3. I am looking for a couple small parts to complete my interior refresh. I need the trim that is around the seat back release and the two of the rubber covers that are under the seat hinges. See pictures. Location: Rochester NY<br />
  4. No. The car was painted by the original owner. Sorry
  5. No. The car was painted by the original owner.
  6. As far as I can tell. It's faded since it's respiratory in 96 but pretty close.
  7. Where we're the $5000 Tiis when I was looking? Might be better to ask what you would sell it for.
  8. I used the Flockit kit in grey. Very easy to do. Prep was key. Remove and sand as good as possible and follow the instructions.
  9. I finally gave up trying to get replacement parts for the less than quality things I received. Won't be buying again.
  10. I took some pics. Not sure it helps. The front facing pic shows how the ashtray sits cocked in the opening.
  11. Thanks. Mine looks like that. The black pieces are on the sides but the tray move up and down inside the opening. When it's pulled out it doesn't latch on the top it just pulls out without any resistance. Could it be the wrong ashtray?
  12. I am finishing up the rebuild of my center console and noticed that the ashtray moves up and down inside the apeture of the metal bracket. It seems like I am missing something that would take up some of the extra space. The plastic guides are on the sides. Is there another piece that I am missing? A picture of an ashtray guide with the ashtray removed would be helpful.
  13. Update Frustrated I took all the linkages off, cleaned and checked all lengths. I thought that once the pin and cam were timed that the hole in the tuna can shouldn't be covered by the cam. I watches the video again and they do state that the adjustment may result in the cam covering a portion of the hole. The car runs and drives without stalling now. Still not perfect though. The one item that I did notice was that there is some slop in the intermediate shaft. I think that the ball cup is worn. Parts on order to see if eliminating that looseness will stabilize the idle.
  14. I checked all hoses for interference. All is clear. The lines highlighted I replace with new from BMW.
  15. Just checked timing. Spot on spec. Someone even painted the ball so it was really easy to see.
  16. Update. Found 2 issues. First, the relationship between the return spring and throttle cam adjustment are important but not discussed. The return spring couldn't hold she cam securely against the idle screw. Second and most impactful is that there is vertical movement of the cam and shaft. If I set the idle with the cam pulled up and then push it down the car dies. I have it set at a happy medium right now. Idles a bit high if the cam is up but about 1000 pushed down. Any ideas on the area of wear that could cause this? Plan on just driving it for a while until snow season here in NY.
  17. Disconnected the retard and the motor acts the same. Had the same thought.
  18. How does it work and why is it needed in the first place?
  19. My mileage seems about right. I have driven about 100 miles and the gage still is about 3/4 full. I would assume that the plugs and exhaust would be pretty black with all that extra fuel. My plugs are clean and look as you would expect. The search continues.
  20. No backfire at all. I don't have any way to measure mixture other than exhaust smell and plug condition.
  21. I have the same issue with my 74Tii. I have it idling at 1000 and its steady as a rock. The car seems to run fine at highway and around town speeds until I stop. The revs drop and sometimes stalls. A simple blip of the throttle brings it back to normal idle. I followed the KF setting procedure, checked all linkages for length. The 289 was long by 1mm and I adjusted it to the correct length. The links are all new as some still have the BMW labels on them. I disconnected the retard valve and plugged the vacuum lines. That did make a bit of a difference but still it stalls and sputters at stop. All ignition was checked cap, wires, plugs etc. Timing is next. Something tells me it's vacuum related but we'll see. Any additional suggestions appreciated.
  22. As a matter of fact I did see one yesterday but didn't make the connection.
