1. Didn't want to go thru the whole story on the board but Here goes: I've dealt with this shop for almost 20 years. They've taken care of 3 BMWs for me and now started doing some work on the Golf Yellow '72 I purchased 8 months ago. To let u know what their history is with my cars here is a snippet. My 1976 3.0Si - I sourced a used 635i motor, tranny and driveshaft. They fabricated what was needed to complete the install, got it in and tuned for CA DMV cert. '72 Golf: I needed the items done I listed so I left the car early December and asked for an estimate. Two weeks later asked for an estimate. After Christmas asked for a timeline and estimate. Got a call early January after asking again and was told to come pick the car up, drive over the weekend and call back Monday. Did that, and my guy could not give me a number stating tech working on it had put in too many hours and he would sort it out and let me know. Fast forward to yesterday when I got a call saying first cut was 23 hours of work plus the driveshaft outsource. He Cut to 12 hours and driveshaft outsource. $1750 total. I'm shocked. No estimate ever. 12 hours? I don't think that's reasonable. I've removed two gearboxes and driveshafts from junkyard cars in the last month with my tools and no lift. Took 4 hours each. I'm not a seasoned mechanic but I'm no idiot.
2. Oh yeah, I changed the guibo on the car myself when I got it and the shop gave it the once over so I could generate a punch list.
3. Have u tried replacing the dip switch?
4. Problem is I've heard 12 hours and 4 hours. Too big a gap to consider either as completely accurate. Both from reasonably competent shops.
5. Doing a reasonability check on a mechanics quote for the following: Remove exhaust from resonator back Remove driveshaft Replace guibo Refresh rear seals on 4 speed (trans in car) Replace driveshaft Replace exhaust. (Driveshaft u-joints replaced, center bearing replaced, balanced - all done by a different shop so don't need the time for this) Just wonder how many hours I should consider reasonable to complete this work. Thanks for any input.
6. Anybody out there have one of these for sale? Location: Modesto
7. When I bought my car my dip switch was bad and had to be replaced to make the headlights work.
8. Spacers in Spacers removed
9. ...or we can choose to not purchase... Whatever
10. PM me
11. Full disclosure with caveat comment that I always like to receive what I pay for. I had a semi-long conversation with Bryce today and was refunded for the order and offered a freebie. That said, we as an enthusiast community have put him in between a rock and a hard place. We want parts, he is getting them, it takes a LONG time and much effort on his part. There are multiple steps required to service each one of our requests and the communication of said requests, volume and logistics involved currently does not support our want, need and desire for swift completion of orders. I don't know what the answer is but feel if we backed off, jointly tried to come up with a method of ordering from him that satisfied a majority of the community while allowing the process changes needed to affect a more consistently pleasant experience we would all benefit. Not apologizing just thinking out loud. Like I told Bryce, I'm a simple guy. I like my '02, I want the parts, I will pay for them, I want to receive them
12. Nice catch, back to looking for oil leak. Could be just a head gasket then. Thanks

15. Looking for a tested/working fuel sender for my '72 2002. Needs to be the early version which is shorter than the '73 and later models. I can look up the part number if you have one out of the car. Please pm if you have one. Thanks. Location: Modesto, CA
16. Didn't know where to put this... There are 2- 320i's (320i not 320is) in the Stockton Pick N Pull off hwy 99. One '83, one '81. '83 missing front hubs, '81 still has em. Both radiators gone. '81 still has a 3.91 open diff, '81 driveshaft still there. I pulled the 245/5 from the '81 after first pulling the 240/5. The '83 was there first so I was going to use that gear box until the '81 came in. The 240/5 is in the trunk of the '81 with the return tag still on it as of today. Both motors still there, 1.8 heads, not sure of mileage on '83. Odometer on '81 reads 270k+. I believe AC components are still in both. Seat photos from '81 below if you are looking to use. I think they fit our seat rails but I'm not sure.'
17. After multiple attempts to purchase items from Denvertii, twice sending payments via PayPal to be ignored 30 Days later when I've asked for a definitive ship date (no worries, PayPal returns the funds), I give up. Nice photos, great conversation, no follow through to consummate the sale by shipping the items paid for and promised. Sellers: If you're selling something and you've been paid for it, please remember to complete the sale by SHIPPING THE F'N PRODUCT!!!

19. I traded the Tahoe in May 2013. The CL ad wasn't very descriptive but when I saw the photos I had to have the Golf Yellow. The owner didn't mention "sunroof" which was a bonus for me living in the Central Valley here in Cali. We swapped titles because he needed a family sized vehicle (read: 5 people) and the 2002 sat in his garage for no particular reason. Don't think he was an enthusiast. On the drive home from Reno NV (young son rode along to see why his dad was so hot to run to Reno on a hot day just to look at a car) we lost the center resonator due to rust and drove the last 150 miles with the front windows down, sunroof and wings open, listening to the tank sound resonating beneath the floor. Tahoe value was roughly $4500, 4X4, 167k miles, 2nd tranny, various repairs needed though none were going to cause a major breakdown. Golf Yellow has rust @ front turn signals, front valence, rear fenders behind wheel. No shock tower or floor board rust. Car was kept mostly in Nevada after purchase Dec 21, 1971. One trip to Europe (based on records) via PO military service. 61,200 on odometer when I picked it up. Replaced exhaust (resonator back), refreshed carb (32/36), refreshed 4 speed rear seals, guibo, driveshaft balance and ujoints replaced, swapped euro turns, momo steering wheel, bottlecaps, HD rear shocks, IE stage 2 springs, upper strut bar, removed front spacers, new motor mounts etc. So far these basics have cost me less than $2k. Slowly gathering parts and info for dual 40 Dellortos, cam change, head work, high compression pistons, 5 speed etc. Suspension bushings all need replacement along with ball joints, steering box, pedal box, clutch master/slave etc. Daily driver fun car for me while I learn from you guys and do what I can to maintain, update and upgrade.
