PM for other parts sent
-
Reset points gap, statically timed (again), did the spark plug chase. Restarted and idles at 700-750. Drove around for an hour now it's idling at just below 1000rpm.
Dealer can get parts for dizzy so I'll do that in a couple weeks when parts get here.
-
Sounds like the internal switch connections are worn out. Is it loose when lifting up or pushing down on lever arm?
-
It occurs when I lift off of the gas. How does booster affect it?
-
Lemme recap: drove 30 miles, car ran smoothly. Drove home and at off ramp experienced stall. Restarted at low idle (30 rpm), nurse home with foot on gas at stop lights to keep it idling. Replaced points, cleaned plugs (2 weeks old), cleaned idle jet. Sprayed carb clean all around carb.
Reset timing statically, sucked on advance tube ( someone else will do this next time) and got no point plate movement.
Next: check all hoses and intake holes, plug holes change hoses if warranted. Check all spark plug wires.
-
Cap is new but II will play the wire tag thing tomorrow. Idle was rough. Can't send photos from this app but the inside of the dizzy looks grungy and worn. Since the vacuum advance doesn't work where can I get a rebuild kit? 2002AD, Blunt?
-
Ok, that was nasty and it didn't move (points plate). Is there a dizzy rebuild kit somewhere? Also, pulled and blew out the idle jet.
The intake manifold has holes everywhere. These can't all need to be plugged can they? Some look like mounting holes but I can't see in them. The carb holes are plugged unless used.

No wires here. 32/36 DGV Weber manual choke.
-
Latest...replaced motor mounts. Noticed position of throttle linkage to pedal has moved away from clutch linkage. Surge has gone away. Must have been interference.
-
How hot was it today? Was it raining?
Points and cap are the easiest to check first. Then I would move on and look at the fuel, see if any crap is in the filter (hopefully you have a clear one). I doubt its fuel but who knows.
Is the car hard to start? Does it get better or worse as it warms up? Has this ever happened before?
Jay
The outside temp was mid 80's, car is not hard to start. Occurred for the first time yesterday on return trip from work. Freeway driving, not a problem until pulling off exit ramp late afternoon 5 ish.
Fuel filter is Mahle metal housing.
After points changeout it idles but at very low RPM. Manual choke btw.
-
Pulled and cleaned plugs (a little oily), replaced points with new, static timed. No changes. Car idles with RPM needle just above 0. Light white smoke at startup. Where to next?
-
I will check distributor, points. Plugs were installed last weekend and ran fine but will pull again. Thanks

'72 with new plugs, 3 month old battery, no ignition probs. stopped at light on way home and stalled. Rpm dropped to 30 then tails to zip unless holding pedal down a bit. Sounds like its missing.
Checked all wires etc.
Fuel at 1/2 tank
Any guesses? Could limp home in fits and starts just looking for thoughts

How does one join the group?

That car was sold. Called him last week while in Lexington KY. No discernible description was provided.

Removing carb after work today. Will let you know.

Didn't grease center bearing as I was new to the guibo thing...
Any way to get this done without another R&R? That was brutal but if I have to...
-
Will have to check both of these out tomorrow after work.
-
After replacing a Guibo which was shredded due to age and general neglect I have detected a slight squeak coming from the drivetrain area. The squeaking occurs on shifts at low rpm. These are the first drives after replacement. Any thoughts??
-
How does this R&R change the booster functionality? Will it decrease pressure required for brake operation? My brake pedal feels "hard"...
-
Found at Double02 Salvage with grommet/gasket...
-
Great info AceAndrew. Taken on board.

Anther question for those who know: who in the states has the same parts availability for Classic 2002's?

One more thing...ran her to warm up this morning with dizzy loosened. Turn clockwise to see what happens and noted idle drop off. Turned counterclockwise and got a miss. I assume that was the ignition advance direction?
Advance mechanism on dizzy is def inop as I ran with hose off and saw no change.
