  1. Driver's side. How do I check the frame rail short of removal???

Edit: Carpet on drivers side was completely worn thru to insulation when removed. As I said above it lived in a very dry climate. I'll try to clean all the junk off from the underside but it's mostly dirt and oil. Not sure how else to determine if the frame rail is intact.

2nd: also car has a sunroof. Could a leaky drain hose funnel water into this area???

  2. Removed insulation and found this:

Car is '71 Roundie, lived in N. California and Nevada all its life. No significant rust found anywhere. A little exterior on fenders, none in shock towers or wells. Hole is 3" long.

What say you? Weld in patches or replace?

    Thanks

Edit: hole is just behind frame rail and I can't discern anything within rail or adjacent to it except this...

  3. ava3apad.jpgGot a rebuilt re curved dizzy back from Jeff with a note to plug the advance unit and go 10-14 degrees btdc. Advance was toast. Will let you know. Bosch also sells the advance unit. PM me and I can scan and send the info or post the link later
  4. Not mine, no affiliation. I've got 2 and I would just like to see anyone else with an interest get the info. Another FAQer tipped me to this one in my area. Went and took a look. Owner purchased as a buy both or go away deal from a divorcee. The other car was not around but owner said it's a '75.

  5. how was the quality of the work?

Job out of driveshaft was great, r n r of exhaust was ok except rear hanger was left off, seAls not leaking, r n r of shift bushings ok.

That said I still have doubts now about all the other work I've paid them for.

  6. Funny thing...when I went in to pay I railed on the service manager for the unprofessional treatment as well as the amount being out of line with both expectation and other estimates. I was given a slight discount.

Yesterday I received a call from the same service manager noting after discussing with the 2 owners (it's a small shop) they were offering a $150 refund. Told him to keep it. I think it had something to do with "never bringing another of my vehicles to them".

  7. Yeah, redone upholstery (and overstuffed to boot), trunk lid is toast (the "anti rust paint" did't live up to its name) and that black carpet isn't original either. That's gotta be the most faded Golf paint I've ever seen.

The original Golf is underneath the peeling yellow in the photos
