  2. I am planning on doing a fluid swap this weekend for the transmission and differential. I have the Redline fluids on order and I would like to make sure I am in the right location and have the right bolts. For the transmission drain the bottom bolt. Fill at bolt on side with 1.5 quarts or until fluid spills out. Also need a 19mm socket? For Differential: Drain bolt is first pic. Make sure to loosen fill plug. The fill plug is on drivers side. Should be second picture. Fill with 1.5 quarts. Will need a 17 mm allen wrench. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Ed
  3. Hi, With the help of my dad (in town for my kid's birthday) we diagnosed and solved the starting issue and Ms. Malaga starts. First we checked the fuel pump which seemed to be in working order. We blew air through the fuel line. No gunk came out. Then we then charged the battery fully and cranked the car for about 30 seconds. After 30 seconds fuel was being pulled through the filter and to the carb. We cranked it again and it started in about 15 more seconds. What I learned (beginner here). I would crank and pump for short bursts of 5-10 seconds. I never gave the fuel pump time to do its job. So next time just keep cranking! 30 seconds at least and a few times if needed. Hopefully this helps another beginner. Ed
  4. Thought this was the vent, but now thinking I am looking in wrong area. Is the float vent vissible looking down the throat of the carb? Thanks. Ed
  5. Mike, It has a Weber 32/36. I will try to float the bowl tonight or this weekend and let you know. Thanks for the help! Ed
  6. Hello, My '73 has been sitting for several months due to a front brake job that is complete. Now the car won't start. I had this problem when I bought the car and after getting it started (with help) for the first time in years the car would regularly start with the help of starter fluid. If the car had been sitting for only a few hours/overnight the car would start without starter fluid. Now the car will start for a split second with starter fluid, but cut off very quickly. The fuel filter is dry and not getting any fuel. I have pumped the gas with the car in the "on" position, but still nothing in the fuel filter. My questions are: Should/can I put gas strait into the carburetor? How should I diagnose the problem? What are the possible causes. Thank you in advance! Ed
  7. Hi, Thanks for the responses. As MLyte pointed out and see in the picture below. The brake booster is missing a piece and is open to the world. Does anyone have a diagram or a picture of how the set up is supposed to work. As suggested, I need a new booster, hose and check valve. Which piece is attached to the booster? Anything else? Thanks in advance! Ed
  8. Hi, I am pretty sure a bolt at the end of this hose is not stock, just not sure what to do about it. Any ideas? Thanks. Ed
  9. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The Cheviot's look close, but probably not a match. I will try WW next. Ed
  10. 13 inch. No information whatsoever anywhere. Well maybe if the tires were off, but they are not. Google has not solved this either. Ed
  11. Hi, Here is a picture of one of the wheels on my 73. The wheels do not appear to have any information on them and I have never seen them on a BMW or anything other make? Can anyone help identify? Thanks! Ed
  12. This dash came with my car. My dash is in pretty good shape and I need cash for the mechanics of the car. This is a one piece dash with no cracks in great condition. Only imperfection is near the Rear Def and Lighter wholes. Buyer to pay shipping or pickup in San Francisco. I am looking to get the highest price so please send me offers. If I don't get my price I will list on ebay. Thanks for looking. Ed
  13. Hello and thanks in advance! I am trying to start my '73 2002 that I bought not running. It has not been running for many years. Today I changed the oil and plugs and put in a new battery. I put in a gallon of gas. The gas tank was bone dry when I got it. I sprayed some starter fluid in carburetor and tried to star it. Nothing. I pumped the gas a few times nothing. The car was cranking. I checked the fuel filter I had put in and it was dry still. So I was wondering how to get the gas into the carb so it can start? Or any other ideas to get it started. Thanks again! Ed
  14. It has been several years since the car was running. I did an inspection of the front brakes and bled them, as well as the back drums The brake pedal had been going down to the floor and no longer does.
  15. I just purchased my first 2002. A 1973 Malaga California car with blue plates. The car was last registered in 2007 when it was parked in a garage in San Francisco. I bought if from the original owner. The car is currently not running. This is my first project car and I would appreciate some help and guidance. This is what I have summarized to be the first steps in getting it running: 1. Change oil and filter; 2. Replace spark plugs, wires and distributor; 3. Drain coolant, flush and refill; 4. New battery; and 5. Drain gas tank and fuel line. Am I missing any other things? The previous owner said that he had to use starter fluid to get it running before it was parked. Also, I have a question about draining the gas. If I pump out the tank, what is the best way to clean the fuel line? Is it enough to just have a fuel filter? Also, I read to spray either WD40 when the plugs or out and crank the engine. Would anyone recommend this? Thanks in advance! Ed
