  1. I own a 1971 2002. I've decided to convert the one barrel carb to a two barrel. Is Weber carbs. the best choice? Can someone recommend a website for purchase? Thank you.
  2. Hi rtheriaque, The carb is a Solex 36-40PDS. I had an idling issue of the car dying if it wasn’t warmed up and driven a bit. The car had sat in the garage for a few years. Here most gas stations have MTBE in their gas. That additive eats the rubber in fuel pumps and carbs. I had my mechanic tell me the carb needed to be rebuilt. The rebuild shop wanted $960. bucks. I bought a gasket kit and rebuilt it in an hour. Then, as I said, it won’t idle unless the choke is out and nothing in the repair books I have say anything about how to the needle valve or the idle screw. So, I rebuilt the carb a second time. Today, I took your advice and removed the needle screw, cleaned it and screwed it in until it seated. Then I backed it off 2 full turns. I set the idle set screw to barely touching and it started with the choke out. The rpm’s are much lower, like 1000 rpm’s. I set the idle set screw two turns tighter, to maybe 1500 rpm’s. When I started backing off the choke it dies. I’ve sprayed starter fluid all around the intake and carb looking for a vacuum leak. If there is one it must be under the intake where it meets the head. Any ideas? Thank you. Clay

  4. I have a '71 2002. It runs but only at 2000prms or more. As soon as I start backing off the choke it dies. I checked with a can of starter fluid. Nothing seems to change the rpms. I rebuilt the carb. The three books I have don't say anything about how to set the needle valve. Any ideas? Thank you
  5. Seeking advice: The car wouldn’t run. I rebuilt the carb., which was good since the diafram inside was torn. I can find nothing in the three repair books I have on how to set the carb. needle valve or the throttle adjustment. Now, the car will run at 2000rpm’s but will die if I back the choke off. When it runs at 2k rpm’s the rpm’s fluctuate. I’ve spent two cans of started fluid seeking a vacuum leak. I’ve resolved that it may be under the intake, in the block to intake gasket, because that’s where I cannot get my can. Any ideas? Thank you.
