  1. Based on Sept. 1 recycling here in Utah (a 260 lb transformer with mixed metals was worth $11.70) or $.045 per pound. Looking at the picture and estimating 1,500 - 2,000 lbs weight that yeilds $67.5 - $90. With a multiplier of .1 not .045 gives $150-200.
  2. AN type fitting looks like a good call but since the fitting was custom built to begin with and the welding is not exactly a work of art maybe the better path is to cut it off and install the correct threads for a standard plug. A good tig welder could make for a better looking end result and you can then use a plug with a magnet in it.
  3. Whether OEM or after market the pump should be shielded from the exhaust manifold heat or it won't last if you do longer trips in the Summer. The shield BMW added to take care of this issue is an ugly Rube contraption but it works. Marshall, at Double 02 Salvage, is where I picked up a new one not too long ago. Used the washer pump to fill the radiator overflow pipe when driving back from Octoberfest in Monterey 2013 after relocating the pump & tank to a cooler in the passenger footwell so it could be refilled on the fly. Really didn't want to change a leaking water pump in a parking lot. It worked and averaged over 60 MPH for the 750 mile drive washing the windshield for a few seconds every 10 miles. The factory part makes it plug and play.
  4. '67 6 volt, with a sunroof. My introduction to BMWs a long time ago. A great little car except when the temperatures would drop below 20 F. Then you were on foot.
  5. On the breakage issue rubber is a weak point. This is one of the few areas where American technology from back in the day is better. Keep an eye on the L. side motor mount as this will break eventually and can allow the motor to rotate so far the distributor cap hits the fender well. It can also keep the throttle stuck wide open if it breaks while your hanging. Not a comfortable situation should you be in a set of esses.
  6. Am looking for a 3.90:1 short neck differential or as a 2nd option a 3.64. Location: salt lake city, utah
  7. Well done. Thanks for the post. I have a bare '70 shell here that does not currently have a sunroof and if time and energy allow, it will get one as it's rebuilt. The car shown as the avatar has new rockers and a new factory quarter panel so drilling out the spotwelds is a process that is understood. Before doing the '70 shell however there is an Austin Healey 3000 first in line. At the moment the final touches are being put on another '70 2002 that was a frame up restoration. It might be nice to have a change of pace for a while.
  8. Main issue is one of time and interest. You Tube's strength has always been the how to's and there are some good ones related to this issue. The work can be done here but there are other things I would rather be doing on the car and there is always a learning curve getting your system down. This is a good job to be sent out to someone who already has their polisher set up and the pawls or wood pieces necessary to push out the dents.
  9. Am looking for one shock tower bearing with the rubber in good shape. This is for an older 02 so the studs must be short. The bearings now installed on the car are in very good shape but are from one of the later models with ride height spacers and are not correct.
  10. Would like to have a set of hub caps worked on to remove the beer can dents and scratches. No luck finding a company doing this using a simple web search. Does anyone know of a shop with reasonable pricing that does this kind of thing. One firm that was found does show level work with a highly polished end result but I'm wanting a stock look, not a mirror finish.
  11. Correction to get the header displayed as expected.
  12. Looking for front and rear license plate bases for a '70 2002. Shooting for the car to be dead stock. Parts diagram shows a couple of brackets.
  13. Ground connection is a likely suspect. Ring terminal for the firewall ground was buffed out with scotchbrite early in the troubleshooting process and not just one but two alligator clip jumpers were used directly from the ring to the neg. battery. No luck. Tonight I took the ring terminal on the brown wire for the wiper gear case and buffed it out. The motor now parks every time. Looking at the gears yesterday there are 2 electrical contact wipers that ride on the ring gear. For the green wire going directly to the fuse box there is a depression of about 30 degrees for the 360 degrees of rotation. This would be the parking zone where the wiper makes no electrical contact. When the wiper switch is on the second wiper keeps the motor running 360.
  14. FWIW a good friend who used to clean windows for a living on high rises would sometimes use a razor blade scraper for hard water deposits. Chemicals and cleaners wouldn't touch some of the clouding. Proceed cautiously on a small spot if you try it but it's a viable approach if the conditions are right.
  15. No. The end for the control arm is about 1/4" longer than the other end. I checked the parts diagram and all the dished washers (3) are in the right positions. After reassembly everything is looking OK with the cotter pin engaging the castle nut. Maybe the strut was in backwards and now it's right. The dished washer in the front was the one rattling and I noticed the washer on the 1600 in that position also had some slop to it.
  16. Having an issue with the large washers on the tension strut rattling on 2002 during test drive after complete rebuild. Can anyone verify if there are 2 or more styles for the tension strut. One with a longer grip distance through the rubber bushings. Looking at my ' 68 1600 the strut only extends a short distance beyond the castle nut. Removing the strut from the 2002 and doing a quick match up to the 1600 the ends are longer on the part from the '02.
  17. Cabe, Have a new fuel pump here and am located about a 5 minute walk from your building. Pump was supplied recently from 2002ad.
  18. Same issue here after complete rebuild. Another wiper motor was connected yesterday with the same result. No park. Spending more time trying both wiper motors and different delay relays did not turn up anything conclusive. Sometimes one of the motors would park and work correctly but most of the time neither would stop. Each motor would slow at one spot in the rotation like it was trying to park but never would turn off. Will have to look at some of the earlier posts here.
  19. Would like front plastic cross piece at shifter and good sides
