  1. Just got off the phone with the owner. A quick look without reading glasses on caused the mix-up here, though I should have run the VIN on the car before posting regardless. This car is in-fact a 1976. Now as to the color; the current owner is not the one who rebuilt and painted the car, so I cannot say for certain that it's Colorado or Inka. It does look closer to Inka to me as well, but we'll just call it Orange for now, until I can get it parked next to another orange 2002.   2. 1976 BMW 2002 Stunning, rust-free example, now available after a 4+ year comprehensive rebuild of the car body, suspension, and drivetrain. All the right bits and goodies; 5-speed, LSD, Recaros, and fuel injection! This 2002 was taken down to bare metal, all rust repaired, and completely resprayed in orange. Every piece of hardware on the car has been replaced or re-coated. Many new parts and upgrades installed as the car was re-assembled, most with receipts and paperwork to match. In the engine bay: Rebuilt M10 (stock internals) with windage tray, fuel injected with Megasquirt. Ford EDIS coilpack set-up. Carbon airbox, silicone intake hoses, custom adjustable throttle linkage. Entire engine bay harness has been tidied and re-loomed. Aluminum radiator, electric pusher fan, all new coolant hoses. Blunttech headlight covers. Top-End Performance shorty exhaust header. Wideband 02 sensor added to downpipe. Beautifully powdercoated intake manifold and valve cover assemblies. Underbody/Suspension: Subframes and arms were blasted, then painted/powdercoated. All new bushings, ball joints, steering and suspension components installed throughout with new hardware. Notoriously difficult to do, the dash has a few wrinkles and exposed folds, though is still far more attractive than the average cracked dashboard. Lights all function, as does the blower motor, heat, and sliders for the HVAC. The fuel tank has been cleaned and painted/coated, and the correct fuel sending unit installed for the fuel level gauge to function properly. Exterior/Body: New stainless belt-line trim and hardware New euro front turn signals Side markers shaved front and rear US license plate/light bracket holes shaved Short euro rear bumper with license plate lights Hella H4 headlights Hella fog lamps (not yet wired) New windshield seals and lock trim front and rear New window scrapers New stainless rocker trim Misc new trim/seals (B-pillar, door handle gaskets, etc) Flawless front grille set with black center kidney Misc There are a few items that could be addressed to really make this car a show-worthy candidate. The paint work was extremely thorough, but the car has yet to be wet-sanded and polished. A small section on the driver's upper door was done as a litmus test, and the result is as beautiful as expected. The rest of the car needs the same treatment to have the luster and depth of shine that it deserves. The rear bumper needs fiddling with for the sides to sit a bit more even/flush with the body. Though most of the rubber on the exterior of the car are new, the rear pop-out window seals are not, and are showing their age. The tachometer has not been wired to work with the Megasquirt. All other gauges do function, as well as the additional gauges in the center console. There are some clunks/rattles still to sort out from the driveline/suspension, namely where the exhaust was braced to the floorpan, and the TPS touching the brake booster. Small enough issues, but cause some NVH at idle/low-speeds/deceleration. One bolt on the shifter console is a hair loose currently, which causes some up/down slop in the shifter. The Koogleworks console was left loose so as not to damage it until the bolt is addressed. Overall, this is an unbelievably straight, rust-free 2002 that could be used and enjoyed as-is. The perfect candidate to personalize with a few touches like wheels, bumper/airdam, and any other small touches you see fit!   4. Offering up my spare G245 5-speed transmission. My current 2002 came to me already 5-speed swapped, so this has officially become a redundant unit. Purchased from another long-term faq member, this 245 was removed from an ‘82 320i. It is an overdrive unit (.81 5th), and maintains the speedometer cable drive to run the mechanical speedometer on our 2002’s. Already has the correct 3-bolt driveshaft flange as well. $1200 located in Raleigh, NC *Please don’t ask me how much to ship it; It is not currently packed/boxed.   5. Single Recaro CT seat, can be used as a driver or passenger side unit. Leg extension, air adjustable lumbar support, flip forward for use in 2-door vehicles. Standard Recaro 6-bolt pattern base. Has been recovered in dark blue leather bolsters and back with light blue alcantara center. Missing one bolster knob, and one flip-forward level, but all functions still working. Gorgeous leather with some distressed marks/indentations, but zero rips/tears; just a beautiful patina. Fantastic feel, and looks right at home in front of some silver dollar gauges.   9. Set of original BBS RS 3-piece wheels. RS036 15x7, et25. Professionally re-drilled to 4x100. 57.1 center bore with included hub rings. Full-height center caps. Original condition; never split. No cracks, no curb damage, no welds or repairs. Clearcoat on lips is coming due to be stripped, but very presentable as-is. Tires are 195/50/15 Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 with less than 2k miles on them. No damage to the tires, no marks on the sidewalls etc. Whole setup balances out with minimal weight, and drove beautifully. Will fit a narrow-body 2002 as-is with the 195 tires.   15. Custom set of 15” BBS RM 2-piece wheels. Started with RM012’s, 4x100, 57.1 hub bore. 1” front lips, and 1.5” rear for a spec of 15x7 et27 and 15x7.5 et20. Gold stainless hardware, aluminum valve stems, billet 1/2 height cap conversion with o-rings; much more secure fit than the original plastic center nuts. Centers were powdercoated a soft white, and are currently plastidipped black. All four wheels are straight and balance out properly. Tires are 175/50/15 Kumhos with lots of tread, but several years old. One tire has a plug at the edge of the tread, but no leaks. Lips are coming due for a repolish, but still present well. One rear lip has very minor rash on the outermost edge of the lip. These fit a lowered 2002 perfectly with no fender rolling/pulling needed. $2100 Located in Raleigh, NC -Adam
  16. I appreciate the reply, however; the topic of this thread is “no center console” 😄 I’ve seen a few instances of cutting the shift boot ring from an earlier car and welding it to the late tunnel. Looking for another solution if someone has found an off-the-shelf solution.
  17. Those of you with a late-model car.. what are you using for a shift boot? My '76 doesn't have the metal ring on the trans tunnel like my '71 did, so nothing to attach the factory-style boot to.

  19. The ‘71 is sold! @masterbuilder46 ; I foolishly sold the built m10, but kept all the rest of the goodies. Most will be making their way onto my ‘76, but I’ll have a few bits and pieces I’ll post here in the coming weeks.
  20. 1971 BMW 2002, Riviera blue over black interior. M10, 4-speed, non-sunroof/non-a/c car, ~115k miles. I purchased this car a few years ago from another FAQ member, and while I've thoroughly enjoyed what has certainly been the nicest 2002 I've had, automotive ADHD has set in. I have a '76 02 to play with that I'll feel less guilty about modifying further. The restoration work and service history on this particular roundie is very well documented, with paperwork, pictures, invoices and receipts going back to 1998, and totaling well over $60k! Significant new and restoration parts were collected for the car between the late 90's and mid 00's. Between '08-'10, the entire car was stripped bare, rust repaired, and a very high quality glass-out respray in it's original Riviera blue hue. The original/numbers matching engine was rebuilt and re-installed around this time as well. The car was sold complete (running/driving) in 2012, but not fully finished as a resto to a gentleman in Virginia, who continued to improve the mechanicals of the car, and drove it sparingly. I purchased the car in '21 with intentions of building a hot-rod roundie, full of period-correct speed parts, and a hot M10 engine. Even after collecting all the parts, I couldn't bring myself to do it. So I continued to enjoy driving it as-is while making cosmetic and mechanical improvements. I drove the car to The Vintage in '21, and it performed flawlessly. I didn't drive the car much in '22, and removed the driveline to have one spot of rust repaired on the driver's frame-rail earlier this year. Upon re-assembly, I renewed much of the clutch and driveshaft-related components, most of the ignition, and all of the fluids. She's once again turn-key mechanically, and ready to drive anywhere! Starts and runs as it should, coolant temps are perfect regardless of outside temperature (been driving in 96 degree heat this week!), and the driveline is solid with no issues. The car has a few tasteful modifications, but nothing that can't be easily returned to original. Otherwise, a good foundation to lean into a little further if someone cares less about originality. The paint isn't flawless; there are some small chips and scratches from use and time, but it's ultimately holding up very very well. Rockers, strut towers, shock towers, floors, frame rails, subframe mounts, nose panel, trunk, and spare tire well are all flawless and rust free. Some surface rust on the subrames and suspension components, but purely cosmetic. The only actual rust on the car is on the driver side rear wheel arch, behind the tire. The paint has bubbled and cracked in this area (pictured.) There is a paint bubble on the driver side front edge of the hood, right at the belt-line trim, and some minor paint modeling at the front edge of the driver side door handle. The trunk lid has some bumps/texture in the paint that can only really be seen under florescent lighting. I tried to photograph it, but it is quite difficult to capture, let alone see in person. There are two very minor dings in the passenger door, but I'll likely have those taken care of with PDR in the coming week. The rest of the body is arrow straight with a glass-like reflective quality in the paint. The car was professionally detailed and ceramic coated in '21. All of the exterior rubber on the car was replaced when the car was re-assembled from paint, and is still in very good condition. All the glass on the car is perfect and clean, the grilles are straight and tidy, belt-line trim straight and bright (one small ding on the hood trim) bumpers are new, rocker trim clean and properly attached to the car. The interior looks great overall, but is what I would consider the weak-point of the car. The headliner is original, and has some staining, as well as being torn near the dome light assembly. The dashpad has several thin cracks, but presents well. The gauge cluster works perfectly, but the silver/chrome trim around the gauges and panel itself is a bit worn. The seats are very good front and rear, with a very small tear in the driver's upper outer bolster. The carpet is black and aftermarket, and looks fine, though the car would have originally had a more salt and pepper style carpet, which I think it should have again. The door panels are new, and absolutely flawless. The original short console is in great shape, and the single-speaker AM/FM radio works perfectly. All functions of the HVAC work, and the blower motor was replaced by the previous owner. The heat actually works very well in this 02! I've installed an ATI Indianapolis steering wheel and hub, but have the original steering wheel to go with the car as well. The Indy wheel does not have a functioning horn button, but the horn does work on the car with the original or other aftermarket steering wheels. The car features a new set of Al (Bluedevil's) black 3-point seat belts, which replaced the original non-adjustable belt set. Mechanically, the car is extremely good. Most of the suspension was rebuilt during the restoration work, all the steering components replaced, and the engine itself rebuilt. The previous owner had the steering gearbox replaced with a supposed rebuilt unit, but it still has a little flat-spot just off-center: really only noticeable when turning the wheel without the car in motion on the 205 tires. The Weber carb is several years old, but clean and working perfectly. The spark plugs, points, condenser, cap, and rotor are all new. The valves were adjusted within the last 3k miles. The clutch and transmission work perfectly, the differential is quiet, and there are no odd noises or vibrations from the. The IE springs actually raised the car when installed, so two coils were cut from the springs. The car still sat a bit higher than I wanted, so the rear spring rubbers are currently removed. The rubbers are included with the car, and can be re-installed easily/quickly. The ride is sporty and firm, but not at all punishing or bouncy. The resonator on the IE exhaust does rattle slightly, mostly heard on deceleration. Overall though, the car has a sporty sound that's not deafening or obnoxious, and still comfortable to travel highway speeds.
