  1. Many have used Tim A. at Eurotech, on Via Fabricante in MV. Will be very thorough, and not cheap.
  2. Sad, just sad. Almost makes you wonder about the other gene pool.....the neglectful owner pool.
  3. The most obvious signs are welds, but I've seen good welds and bad. When you cut the nose off, frequently careless folks will not jig it up right and because you have two cut surfaces, something has to give, and one or both get shortened. Thus your space issue. I've even seen 02 noses on 02tii cars. The vent is a dead giveaway. Good luck.
  4. I talked with my mechanic this morning about your situation. He told me that all A/Cs for our cars were aftermarket, dealer installed. He also said that the Wally rad is in fact a replication of the original rad, and thus at some time there was a "workaround" for your situation. The WN solution makes the most sense to me. Is your car all original? That is, is the nose original to the car? Most of our cars have had the nose replaced. Often in the replacement the space between the fan and rad is reduced significantly. That's yet another issue for some. Good Luck.
  5. Is that the same mantra as "I always wanted a 911, I always WANTED a 911, I ALWAYS WANTED A 911" ?
  6. What he said. Rump, rump, rump! Mine always gets looks at the stoplight, particularly from those little Japanese cars with silly "waaaaah" exhausts!
  7. I'm looking for mine too. Ordered 10 or so days ago.
  8. Isn't this the reason Sawsalls were invented? Something about hearing the thing start up, and then seeing the result sure could keep a dumbass lawful.
  9. I agree. Living in SoCal I'm not concerned about the heater functioning, though it does. I'm more worried that this highmod engine lunches itself from the heat. Granted it was a cool day here yesterday, but I am quite pleased with the outcome. BTW, the W-N guys list the 71 degree stat application as for "modified/high performance engines." Just sayin.....
  10. Ok, so I was finally able to replace the 320 aluminum radiator with the W-N. Several interesting things happened along the way. Some time back I had the alternator replaced, and apparently the mechanic neglected to tighten the lower bolt on the bracket. This resulted in the thing coming loose, chewing up my "tropical" fan, and falling out on my driveway, after making a hellva lot of noise. I was blessed to find the bolt, and then where it went, but troubled myself silly to try and find the damn thing on the block so I could put a nut on it. Yes, I discovered some time later in ties directly into the block, but it was such fun fumbling for several hours. When I took the thermostat out, I discovered the builder of the engine had blocked the top outlet off completely, and there were no mechanicals inside. Finally I've seen on this forum discussion suggestions that W-N don't recommend using the 'tropical fan'. The only problem I found was it actually is wider by 1/4 inch on both sides. Now for the results: with the 71 degree stat, Peak antifreeze, one bottle of Red Line Water Wetter, and a pint of water, the needle in the gauge refuses to get above the halfway point. It is then that the stat kicks in and the temp drops the gauge shows a drop of 15 degrees. Using an infrared thermo I could get a 50, yes 50 degree difference between the top and the bottom of this radiator when warm. I am blown away......
  11. What he said.......like 1,000 times what he said......
  12. Owned the car for 10 years, plus or minus. Started having overheating problems a year ago, finally 'diagnosed' as a cracked head, which was replaced with new unit. Because of all the machining that had to be done (according to the mechanic), for the cam, valves, etc. it was very expensive and took nearly six months. Have had it back maybe two months. At first it would heat up, but then the gauge would drop off a bit. Recently have taken a bit longer drive (30 minutes) and the needle gets high and keeps going, requiring me to use the heater trick. Have purchased, but not yet installed the Wallennoch (sp?) high capacity radiator. Currently have an aluminum 320i unit installed. Also have, but not yet installed the 71 degree thermostat. Have borrowed, but not yet used a friend's infrared laser thermometer to identify source of heat. Doing installs and etc. this weekend.
  13. Thanks for all the help. I've got the "high capacity" radiator mentioned in this forum previously, will secure a stat and fan too. Hope it all helps.
  14. Ok, I'm not starting another thread! I'm confused. Everything I've read says because I'm running a substantially modded engine, with dual throttlebodies, and a Schrick 304, along with many other goodies, that I should run the 71 degree thermo, which apparently is made for such engines. Correct, or do I continue to buy donkey crap from some internet trader?
  15. I agree. I'd add that you should be required to show evidence that you're over twelve years of age to purchase one too! I think what really gets em is the popping and crackling that my little green monster makes. Was told we'd never quite get the mix right, given the combination of mods, so the rumbling, back firing, crackling would just have to be lived with......I'm soo sorry. And sad, too.
  16. This is what I'm running, and it handles my modest mods. (Schrick 304). I particularly like being chased down by Subaru drivers trying to figure out how it makes all that pretty noise.
  17. Wondering about the thermostat. Wouldn't you benefit from the 71 degree?
  18. I hate to start another thread, but my search skills apparently suck. I have read, and actually have seen in catalogs, something called a tropical fan for the 2002. It appears to be a 400mm unit, as apposed to the standard 360mm. Anyone using said fan? And does it help?
  19. I'm interested too, but would like to see a picture or two.
  20. I use Seafoam both in the crankcase and the fuel tank. My mechanic sorta turned his nose up at it, but he does that with every idea that's not his own. It really helps in both applications.
  21. So is this happening....or not? Would love to connect with the group.
  22. Actually the radiator I'm replacing is an aluminum one out of a 320. Apparently there are a lot of them being used in conversions. When I told Bill Holman, who built the engine and restomoded this car, of my heat problems, he told me he had gone back to the original unit. At any rate, out with the old, and in with the new.
  23. I couldn't wait to open the box...the smell of fresh paint was really great. Can't wait to get it installed. Anybody figure out where the "high capacity" comes from if it is two core?
