Keeping this thread alive. . .
I just completed this swap. Its very easy and so satisfying! I just wanted to share. . .
I have an early 1600 with the clock in the cluster. I always thought the clock was kinda cool, although a little quirky to have rather than a tach. Regardless, I always dreamt about having a tach in there.
This thread inspired me to actually do it!!!!!
I found a complete cluster on eBay with the correct tach to match the silver dollar gauges, and the sale included the all important wiring harness. Once I got the used part, I cleaned it up, and simply moved the speedo from my original cluster into the "new" cluster.
From what I've read, in order for the tach to work, the middle prong on the back of the tach needs to be connected to either the black post of the coil or the distributor. My car didn't have a loose black wire behind the instruments that some have mentioned, so I just ran a wire from the black post of the coil to the back of the tach, and it works beautifully!
I love this forum! Thank you ?
