  6. looking for a set to have aardvark rebuilld. please let me know what you have!
  7. thanks for all the advice. i like driving all of them... for different reasons.... they all make me happy.. i've decided to do the unreasonable thing.. and just keep all of them. this isn't a dress rehersal afterall... a ratio of 8 vehicles to 1 driver... while bad... will be better when I get married soon.... 9 vehicles to 2 drivers is much more reasonable... and in fact.. would prompt me to add to the collection to get the ratio back to a more appropriate level anyone have anything cool for sale?
  8. Price:: 500 Location: : houston tx hi all looking for some rebuildable recaros for my tii - want to send them to aardvark
  9. never bought anything from EAG... came close to selling my e46 m3 to them a couple years ago. Does me having a history with EAG matter - no offense intended, just curious...
  10. Thanks for the advice so far. 4 of the other 5 are some of Stuttgart's finest and I won't part with them at this time. I needed an automatic in the fleet, and recently bought a one owner, 31k mile 1985 MB 300D to fulfil that requirement These are clearly first world problems. Leaning towards being unreasonable and just keeping all of them
  11. gee... thanks kidasters I put the e30 m3 up for sale in December... and despite all of the interest, I am leaning towards keeping it. It is an excellent driver.. I have an illness which requires me to buy the cars I found to be cool when growing up.... I am sure most of you guys can relate.
  12. 5 other cars in the stable which are keepers. I am a BMW guy... and BMW is my first automotive love. Car 1: one of the nicest e21 in the country. 1983 320is. Korman 2.7 m20 stroker, metric mechanic 5spd, blanton diff, full recaro interior. 27k miles. like new... will never find another like this if I sell it... but it isn't a BMW icon... and besides being super nice.. nothing about it is collectible. Car 2: 1973 tii. Original owner had it until he sold it to my friend last year. I just picked it up. Full documentation since day 1. Nice period correct upgrades. 5spd, 4.10 75% lock diff, body in good shape, but starting to rust on rear shock towers. Car was in the northern US for 10+ years... had one glass-out respray previously, and a second respray 10 years ago. Really nice car with insane documentation. Car 3: 88 M3. Very few papers, except $16k mechanical refurb in Oct 13. Quality full respray somemtime recently, no documentation. Clean carfax. Odo gear was broken when i got the car, but based on carfax, mileage should be approximately 130k. Supposed Korman 2.5L s14... no documentation. I think cars 2 and 3 are both iconic for different reasons... but teh quality of the e21 is tough to replicate.. and the (at most) $15k i'd get for it doesn't buy that much car these days... Any thoughts are appreciated! I guess I could just get more garage space.. but 8 cars seems excessive...
  13. While new here, I feel uniquely qualified to make comments, given that I have a tii, an e30 m3 and early 911s... I don't think the tii can be considered a mass produced econobox... especially not in the round tail light guise... especially if we're talking about the US market. If anything, I think the old 911s benefit from the constant evolution of the model. An old 911 still looks like a newer 911, or at least there is a strong family resemblance.. such that an old one has a ton of character in the ever rising cost of new ones. In the sense that "anyone with money can go buy a new one"... you have to be an enthusiast "and have taste" to buy a older one for the same money. A line from the movie "gone in 60 seconds" comes to mind. I don't think my early 911s perform meaningfully better than the tii... granted, I don't push either to their limits. I think stock tiis have a good chance of matching of even exceeding the e30 m3... the e30 m3 guys think there are about 1000 cars left in the US.. and I bet that number is similar for tiis.... While the e30 is iconic with the sexy (imho) boxed flares, the 73 is definitively a classic, while the 1988 e30 is not quite old enough yet (again, imho). As far as cars go.. as much as I love the tii, the e30 m3 and my longhoods.... objectively, compared with newer cars, they're just not that good as being cars... they're slow, not very safe... not fuel efficient.. I have to warm them up before I really go anywhere... but I choose to keep these cars instead of getting newer ones, because they have a ton of character, and that they are BMW and Porsche's hertitage and roots. If the 1965-1973 911 was not as good as it was, we would not have the gt3's today... If the 02 and the tii's were garbage, we wouldn't have all the versions of the m3's that have come around. I think based on shear numbers, the tii will be going up in value, presuming the economy doesn't take a nose dive. They are beautiful, still fun, and a meaningful part of BMW's success story in the USA. There are certainly better investments out there, but few that put a smile on your face as these do... and if you can make a few bucks on your hobby... more power to us.
  14. Hi All I've been a long time lurker... had a 74 02 ten years ago which I loved... Didn't need another car, garage, storage unit, driveway and space in front of my house are already full... but could not help myself at the opportunity to get back into an 02... I helped my friend find this car a little over a year ago (from the original owner!), and since he has moved to the Northeast and can't have more than 1 car... he needed it gone... and I was the lucky benefactor It's Malaga on Tobacco/Saddle (not sure which?). Fully documented back to day 1, including the window sticker!... about 135k original miles (haven't added up all the mileage for the 3 odometers he had).. really nice period upgrades, including 4.11 75% lock diff, 5 spd, and schrik 292. Retains the mechanical fuel injection.. and runs fabulously. There is the beginning of rust on the shock towers, which sucks, but until decide what to do with the car, it will stay as it is. Too many cars, and not enough time/space and money I am sure I am not the only one on this forum with this dilemma! Here are some pics. Happy to be a part of this forum! For those keen on more pics, my friend in Houston put these up http://s887.photobucket.com/user/Kidasters/library/Larrys%20Tii?sort=3&page=1
  15. Hi All - I'm pretty new here.. recently picked up a malaga 73 tii. I'm coming from the porsche world, where the early 911's have gone stratospheric in price... While they made a pile of 02s... for the US, I was shocked to see how few round tail light 02s were actually sold.. and with the expectation that a bunch of them are no longer with us, the numbers left may be quite low? Does the group think that the 02tii has the remote potential of following the trajectory of the early 911s? I got mine because I've always loved 02s.. and this was my first real opportunity to get a roundie... it was not a speculative purchase.. but if I end up putting a couple bucks in my pocket in the event that I sell.. that wouldn't be horrible either...
