  1. Rats.... New guy to Denver here.... I just moved about two months ago from KC. Am driving my 02 back to Littleton Saturday the 28th. I am wondering if there is a 02 Club in Denver, that is seperate from the BMW club? Something for us older Roundel cars? Do you folks have any other events lined up? Would love to rally up with some Denver area folks, will need a good Weber person to help me Altitude adjust.... Please post if there is any other gatherings coming up soon! Thanks!
  2. Thanks for the response, i do appreaciate it. So 98 from the factory (75 carbed) and reliable power up in the 150 range with standard modifications. Power to Weight makes that butt dyno go crazy. That will difinately feel like a hot rod. Marshall, your link looks to be down. I was guessing you had some pearls on your page. Thanks!
  3. Is there a general starting point on jets for a rock stock motor? Or a post that reflects that?
  4. Hello all! I have a question. I am new to the 02 scene, and have done a little research, but have not been able to find a thread on the forum that really touches this subject without drilling down deep into lots of places. What are the realistic HP numbers our little hot rods will producce reliably? What kind of numbers does the group have? feel free to list general mods to get where you are HP wise. I apologise if this is a dead horse subject, and if there is a link to a post, please let me know! Thanks!
  5. Thanks for all the info on the carb and timing settings. One quick question, what degree adv or ret do i set the timing light on to see the ball? Or are you saying use a standard timing light. Thanks!
  6. So here is a 64k question. What should my jets be? This is a Rock Stock car, nothing extra. I realize it might be different for each situation, but is there a guide line you use? Thanks!

  8. Sorry, forgot to mention that. No i installed a pertronix. Can that be the issue? I kind of heard that its either on or wont fire, so if it worked, i figured i had it right, using the plastic gauge, I have not fiddled with the pertronix gap since i set it. Oh, and it is easy to start in the morning here, morning temp about 28, but it wont stay running, will die due to low RPM. Although i can start it easy, fires right up, i have to keep my foot on it till it warms up or it will die. Once warmed up, idles at 950, fairly smooth.
  9. Ok, fellow 02'ers. I am stumped here on the basics of tune ups with this. I am new to the 02 world, and am just not getting it. Here is the setup. a 75, stock other than a brand new 32/36 water choke Weber. The air fuel is set at 2 and 1/4 turns out. Timing seems to be a mystery, as from what i have read, all of them are different, so there is no real degree that works for everyone? So i set it a a good sound, no rough idle at about 950 rpm. It is not advanced to the point of no power at higher rpm, UNTIL about 4000 rpm. So my issue is i have a weak spot, not really a dead spot at about 4000rpm, or about 70ish mph. I have fiddled with timing and air fuel for about a month now and just cant seem to get it right. Should i set the timing at revving the motor to about 3500 rpm, to make sure the distributor is fully advanced, then set to smooth running? Why does it slightly backfire after i shut the motor off? Oh, and i just re adjusted the valves to make sure i didn't have any issues there. I am guessing the timing is still off, for the back fire, but why after the ignition is off does it backfire? Too rich and fuel left over out of the exhaust igniting in the exhaust manifold? Thanks in advance for your responses, this is probably a simple issue, and i am just too much of a noob with these to get it....
  10. interested in the exhaust, please email me regarding. Thanks,
  11. Hmm.. ok, so looking at the diagram and my car, the airpump is not on the car. That being said, where would the EGR valve be located? I tried to follow the diagram, and i think i have it pretty much correct, looks to be a faulty accelerator pump in the ol solex... next question is, if the tag is broken off the top of the carb, how do i know which solex it is to get a rebuild kit, or is there only one? Thanks!
  12. Ok, i left it attached to the retard side (no diaphragm) and it seemed to work better this morning. The car now has simply "ok" pull up to about 5500 rpm. I will try switching it and adjusting the idle and see where that leaves me. Any idea on the port that would be vacuum on deceleration? Thanks again!
  13. Hello FAQ'ers, newbie here with manual on the way. I am having a stumbling problem with my newly acquired 75 Solex 02. I need to set the valves, adjust timing, reset the pertronix to make sure its on the money, have done plugs wires and cap and rotor so far. My question is, its falling hard on its face on initial acceleration, and i noticed that the distributor wasn't hooked to anything on the large diaphragm side, and connected to a sort of vacuum sending unit on the firewall, which wasn't hooked to anything. I have searched on the forum, but being relatively new to 02's i haven't been able to find what i am looking for. Where does these two ports plumb to? Both to carb vacuum? I think that might defeat the purpose, i suspect one is retard (like me right now) and one to advance? Thanks for your response, this forum has been a wealth of info, and is the perfect example of what a enthusiast community is.
  14. I have a 75 with a 4 speed about to grenade. On a budget and don't have it in the books to swap to a 5 speed yet. Could you ship it? Zip is 66083.
  15. Understood... was looking for a deal. Aardvark seems to be a very good complete kit, was hoping someone had one a bit less expensive of parts laying around to make one up.
  16. Anyone out there have a complete turnkey 5 speed kit, as in all the pieces needed for a 4 speed swap?
  17. do you know anything about it? Could i bolt in and go? Thanks!
  18. Ok, got the new calipers today, and the look GREAT! Just installed them and work perfectly. Lifetime warranty, 60 bucks a side, 30 bucks core each. Very satisfied. I would have just beat the side of the house in trying to rebuild the old ones. O'Reillys has to special order them, but worth the 4 day wait. Oh, sorry, 9 bucks for shipping. Thanks for all your responses, it really helped me out.
  19. O'reillys in Kansas City. Actually was 59.99 plus 30.00 core and 9.00 shipping since it was a special order part. I will post again on this thread when i get them on Friday. Sounded inexpensive to me too, but was willing to give it a try. I can always return them if not correct or look right. They could be bunk, or decent rebuilt calipers, not 100% sure, but i have a good relationship with my auto parts guys.
  20. This is exactly why forums are the BEST resource for these types of situations. Thanks for the responses, and especially the link to the Big Brake misnomer, that is the meat of the information. My calipers are Sooo bad that even trying the trick of re attaching the brake lines and pumping, only 3 pots even slightly moved. I sucked it up, found my local parts store had the calipers for 60 bucks a side, and just replaced them. Will let you know how the quality is once he's on the road. Thanks again for all your time to shoot me the info, i do, as well as the other newbies do appreciate it!
  21. Thanks for the response! So is this the same calipers used on the Tii "big brake" units, or is there a larger one to fit over the bigger rotors? Thanks again!
  22. Ok, so i have a 75 '02. Nothing fancy, no kewl options, just a standard solex carbed '02. I just purchase this little hot rod and the front calipers are pretty much seized and i need to do a complete brake job. So after pulling off the calipers, i have noticed they are 4 piston. Does this mean someone in the past as put a big brake conversion from a Tii or something else, or was this simply an option on the standard '02 vs the 2 piston caliper?
  23. Just shot off an email on some items i need as well. Thanks!
