  1. Was a battery installed in the trunk at one time?
  2. Is the ANSA muffler meant for an early or late '02?
  3. Just wondering: in your photo of the rear underside of your car, what muffler is installed, and where did you buy it? Thanks, Doug
  4. Thanks for the replies. Yes, I just went out, and unscrewed the red switch cap which allowed me to direct the switch, via the bulb, a bit to the right so that the switch caught in the correct position. If I screwed in the cap the entire way, the switch released again. So, either I'll need to bend the keeper tab, stuff a toothpick in it or replace the switch.
  5. Yesterday, I woke my 1976 02 out of its winter slumber. It started without issue, and I took it for a 25 mile drive. I returned home, park the 02 and tended to some other household chores. A couple hours later, I went out with a hand pump to touch up the pressure in the tires. I noticed then that all four turn signals were flashing: I had not touched the car since I parked it upon returning home from my drive. The hazard switch was not flashing, nor was it, seemingly, engaged. In fact, in the 12+ years I've owned my 02 I've never touched the hazard switch. Anyway, while my signals were flashing I pushed in the hazard switch. It never engaged, though if I held it in, the signals stopped flashing, though the hazard switch did not illuminate. I searched the faq and found lots of messages that were similar in nature to my issue, but none that were quite the same. My assumption is that the hazard switch might be wedged, causing a short. BTW, the sound of the flasher relay and the frequency of the blinking seem normal. Any suggestions? Thanks, Doug

Esty, Would you please confirm width and offset? Thanks, Doug
  7. Regarding the Cannon 38/38 manifold, does it include the water jacket on the bottom of the manifold? Roughly how old is the Guibo? Thanks.
  8. I'd suggest replacing your plugs with some that have copper electrodes, e.g., Champion N11YC. When I bought my 2002, the PO had installed NGK Iridium plugs. The car ran like crap. I replaced the plugs with basic copper electrode plugs after which the car ran quite well.
  9. There's this option: (02 models) Front Panel >73 Lower Repair Section (J) – Jaymic BMW Parts WWW.JAYMIC.COM 1502, 1602, 2002, 2002Auto, 2002Tii, 2002Turbo, 1600/2002 Cabriolet, 2000/2002 Touring
  10. FWIW, a year ago (last winter) I installed a pair of MVP turn signals without issue on my '76.
  11. Count me in, too, for shortened bumper bellows.
  12. Where and what are you sourcing replacement insulation?
  13. Was your rear muffler ever mounted and used--I can't tell from the pictures: did you move its mounting tabs to accommodate the center exit on your '76?
  14. What is the weight of the bracket?
  15. Easiest way to tell front from back: front have two bolts, rear have three.
  16. Your new paint job looks awesome. Enjoy reassembling it, knowing a great drive is your prize for all of your efforts (and those of the body shop ;-).
  17. I check, and empty if necessary, the catch can every 1,500 miles or so. While it always contains something, it's never, literally, full. With the catch can in place, there's a lot less crap on the underside of the air cleaner. I bought the hoses from either Jegs or Summit Racing: can't remember which.
  18. The following shows my catch can setup with a stock, late model air cleaner. I sourced an oil/fuel compatible hose that had pre-formed 90 degree ends, cut the hose in half and mounted the catch can to a repurposed bracket of some sort I found in the basement of the house my wife and I bought a few years ago. This setup works well. Doug
  19. I encountered this behavior a couple of years ago. In my case, the external voltage regulator was failing; at higher rpms, the regulator would fail and the L light would come on. After I replaced the regulator, the problem disappeared.
