  1. Really appreciate this! I'm leaning towards just replacing the transmission with a Getrag 242. I think I have a 232 but will double check tomorrow. I reached out to Steve at Blunttech and he said he would check if he has any countershaft bearings, if not or if it's too expensive, he said swapping in a 242 would be the way to go as well. If you have a good 242 you're willing to sell, let me know, I'll save a bit by not having to pay for shipping. I'll check with Patrick as well. Thanks again for the recommendations.
  2. There should be, I just replaced all the fluids about a year ago. What would be considered a heavy gear oil? 85W-140? So would a new clutch kit fix that problem? Yes, it whirrs to a stop. I'll try the gear oil first before I start replacing parts. Thanks.
  3. Ha, will definitely try that. If it is a faulty connection, would I have to take the instrument cluster off and just clean off all the connection points? Before they completely stopped working, I had the same trouble, they would start working about 20 minutes in or so. But that was just the Fuel and Coolant gauge. Not sure why the wipers or Tach is out though.
  4. Thanks for the advice, I'll look into all this tomorrow and see if I can figure out whats going on.
  5. Thanks Rick! What do you mean by overhauling the box? Rebuilding the transmission? I thought of doing that a few years back and was quoted $1000-$1500 and decided against it. Do you think it would be a good idea to replace the clutch at the same time with a Sach's clutch kit?
  6. What else do you recommend I do while I'm replacing the throwout bearing since I'll be taking a lot of it apart? Is there anything else that I should replace/upgrade at the same time?
  7. Thanks! Glad you told me that, I'll put that on my list of things to do asap. So something like this? - http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pn.aspx?sku=10107902-21511204224&vehicle=1970 BMW 2002 E10&brand=Fichtel-Sachs&utm_source=google&utm_medium=nonpaid&utm_campaign=froogleSKU_BMW&gclid=Cj0KEQiAk5zEBRD9lfno2dek0tsBEiQAWVKyuItmjyX77EhArFRDaESyVTzzrYox5FD1usu68QyPe-caAvaM8P8HAQ
  8. I have original shocks and struts and I think it's time for an upgrade. Whats the best option for something that won't make the ride super stiff? I'd prefer to keep the car at stock height but also don't mind lowering it a little (an 1" or so). Thanks guys!
  9. Thanks that really helps and gives me somewhere to start. No idea on the miles but I've had the car for 6 years so it's at least that old but most likely much older.
  10. This has been going on for awhile but I haven't been driving the car much so been putting it off. But time I got it fixed. When the car is in neutral, there is a very noticable whirring noise right under the gear shift lever. As soon as I press the clutch and put it into gear, it goes away. Any suggestions on what it could be? Also not sure if related but It's really hard to shift into 1st from neutral. I usually go into 2nd then into 1st which is smooth and easy. Related or is this a totally other problem? Thanks This is in my 1971 2002. I'm in West Seattle if anyone is around, bored and willing to give me a hand in exchange for pizza/beer and company.
  11. Any ideas what and where I should check first? The speedometer works, but the gas gauge, coolant temp and RPM's stopped working and so did my wipers. They all worked last time I drove it.

  13. Thinking it's time to upgrade my alternator. I've checked online and having a hard time finding one. And non of the wrecking yards around here have one. If you have one or have a lead on one, would really appreciate it. Thanks. -Yuriy
  14. Hey guys, Does anyone have one of those original roof racks they're willing to let me borrow/rent for a day or two? I have an idea for a photo shoot I want to do and love the look of the 2002 with a rack. This would be going on my 2002. I'm assuming it's a pretty simple on/off procedure. Any leads would be really appreciated. Thank you! Looking for something like this-
  15. I'm in Seattle and interested. My 4 speed is making weird noises so I think it's time for an upgrade. Are you firm on price? That's a bit steeper than I've seen some other ones going for. Thanks.
  16. Would these fit a 1971 2002 no problem? Any wheel rub? Thanks. I'm in Seattle and super interested.
  17. Hi, yes it is. I posted it on ebay with a starting price of $280.
  18. Whats a more reasonable price? I thought $280 was pretty reasonable for a complete bumper from what I saw for sale on ebay. There is a center section by itself for $220 and the corner pieces for $200+.
  19. Location: : Capitol Hill I was planning on sending this bumper off and having it rechromed but am going another route now. It's a solid bumper, has surface rust (take a look at the photos) and one small ding. The sides pieces are in great shape, not rust or dings. It's just the center piece that needs some attention. Let me know if you have any questions.
  20. Would this work on my 1971 2002? I'm looking to do a 5 speed transmission upgrade and want to do the LSD at the same time. Thanks for your help.
  21. I just put in two front recaro seats and would like the back to match. Does anyone have a rear seat in a black color for a 1971 2002? I'm in Seattle. Thanks.
