  2. I saw those diagrams but they do little when you are trying to find the correct positioning of a certain part...that requires a question to someone that is familiar with assembly.

Luckily the 2002 FB page has great members that have been very forthcoming and gave me the guidance I was after

  4. I have a 245 that was in my friends car.  When I got it the Allen head screw, in pic, was out. Im

not sure what it is for.  I know where it goes but will not screw down all the way.  If you screw it in the trans will not shift.  I think this screw is pushing on the select rod.

I have looked at pics of other 245s and it appears to be in all the way but mine won’t

any idea on what is the correct way to install this?

    Thanks for any help

The triangular Alpina setup is an air collector without a filter inside and was developed for the 3 series E21, not for 02.

Main reason was, that the 02 TI can didn't fit the E21 front wheel arch in the engine bay anymore. Second reason were the emission rules getting stricter concerning exhaust fumes and noise here in Germany all throughout the 70s.

If correctly jetted it works well with a 125hp A1/3 setup and a 150hp A2/3 setup with dual Solex DDH.

    Best regards, Lars.

Thank you.  I will see how it compares to the ITG when we tune.  I plan to route the intake lines different and try to go solid line up to the air intake and maybe a few inches of silicone turbo hose for flex and vibration      Or

maybe just hang it on the wall

in comparison tio the standard ti Airbox with dual "alpina" filters on a 165 hp engine

We plan to dyno tune the car so we will be able to see what it does.   Lots of Changes in filter technology since the 70s.   If it is too restrictive ima hang it in the man cave lol

    What Andrej said.

With an intake, and throttle bodies, you want the largest filter possible for the least resistance, and a large volume of still-air to pull from.

The Alpina box should breathe just fine, and should have a large filter element inside of it. You just need to run the hose to fresh air. Don't bother with cone filters, that one ya got looks like it's off the rice shelf at VatoZone.

The A3 uses external filter.  The A4 used a filter inside the box   Post below says around 200 CFM which is my issue.  This tiny filter moves like 125cfm lol.

Time to get a bigger one!

  8. Thanks....that is kind of what I suspected.  I plan to run the ITG for regular use and slap on the Alpina A3 for stuff like MidAmerica show etx.   I have a lot of room up from   But no need to go too large.   That’s why I was curious as to the CFMs I need for this setup

  9. I have a fresh motor, total new build.  292 cam, 9:5 pistons.  I have dual 40s...new and properly jetted. Here is my question....how many CFM of air do they need under load at say 5000 RPM.  Reason?  I have a nice Alpina A3 air box with a cold air intake.  Car runs great when it is off.  When it is on I get air restriction (rpms jump up some) and rich running.  Take the air system off and stick the ITG ion and it runs great.

I think I may have too small of a filter on this A#3 setup.

I have Jenvey Heritage DCOE style EFI going on next month and would like to use the A3 air system ...so I need to buy a bigger element and see how it does.

Knowing what size I need would help.  I can extend the filter down into the front so I have more space if needed.  Any info would really help

Pic 1 is the A3 setup...you can see the filter element  Pic 2 is with the ITG setup and it has no air starve issue with the ITG

  10. Wow my post from 2010!  And I am again about to order a driveshaft for a 5 speed swap.  Upside is, just like my last driveshaft, no need to measure squat.  Driveshaft Specialists in San Antonio did my one in 2010 and are doing one for me now.  They add a splined slip joint so you have about an inch of give with this one.  Just tell them what you need, they do the rest

  11. My car is a 1970.  I installed a 75 harness since I have upgraded a lot on the car.  On later cars there is a bracket spot welded to the fender to hang the relays.  Since car is a 1970 I don’t have this.

Just curious how others have found ways to hang then and clean area up

i know they sell the relays that have a mount tab on back, and may get that type if I can find no solution for these relays
