I was planning on installing them on my car, but recently sold the car and have no need for them. Wheels are straight and do not have any curb damages. 9. I am the current owner of the vehicle and Chris Willett (only02) is selling the vehicle for me. The touring is a sharp car, but I would not be interested in any trades
  10. Figured I'd post the link on here to see if anyone is interested: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-BMW-2002Tii-ALPINA-A4S-Dog-Leg-5-Spd-A-C-32k-Miles-/270748235972?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f09da38c4
  11. Good morning. I was hoping to get some feedback about selling my car. I haven't been on the FAQ in several months and wanted to get some opinions. I purchased Bob Murphy's 2002 in August of 2008. Since I purchased the vehicle, Chris Willett in Las Vegas has kept up all maintenance and repairs on the vehicle. It's been a great car and I've had a blast driving it. Recently, I've been toying with the idea of putting the car for sale. I really haven't had much time to drive the 2002 for the past six months and it's been sitting in the garage collecting dust. I am very torn on keeping the car and having it sit, or having it go to someone who may be able to enjoy it. I wanted to see what other fellow 2002 owners thoughts were on selling the car. I also have no idea how difficult it would be to sell the car, or how much it is worth.. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks,
  12. I posted about a month ago regarding the infrequent problem I was having with my fuel pump. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,346627/highlight,/ Here is the update. I took the car to Chris Willett (Only 02) and he found the problem to be electrical. To start, there apparently was not a relay installed for the fuel pump. Chris added a fuel pump relay, but said the fuel pump still was not getting the required amout of voltage. (I believe he said it's suppose to have 12 and it tested at 11.4 volts ***I may be really off on those numbers and am going by my not so good memory). I picked up the car before he was able to go through it completely and it is still acting up. Chris also wanted to test the fuel pump because he believes it may have ruined a 3rd pump. Added, he also believes the wiring to the pump may be bad, but had not definately determined that yet. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Also, I'm not sure if I want to attempt this or not, but how difficult would it be to run new wiring to the pump if needed?
  13. I thought it could be something in the tank clogging the pump, but the problem only occurs when the temperature is extremely hot. Couple other notes: 1. There is not any pressure inside of the tank when opening the gas cap 2. When it has acted up, there is more than 1/2 tank of fuel in the tank.
  14. I am hoping to get some different suggestions as to what the problem could be. In late June of this year, I was driving from Lake Tahoe, CA and Las Vegas (470 miles) when the fuel pump started "groaning" and the car would cut out briefly quite a bit. I was barely able to make it back to Vegas before the car died. My mechanic, Chris Willet, determined that the problem was a fuel pump and installed a new fuel pump. I got the car back the next day and drove it home about 25 miles without any problems. The car ended up sitting for the next 1 1/2 months because I had traveled out of the state for work. When I got back in mid-August, I put about 100 miles on the car and it started having similar problems (cutting out and also fuel pump was "groaning") I let Chris know of the problems and he ordered a second fuel pump and installed it on Tuesday of this week just before I took the car on vacation back to Lake Tahoe. Directly after leaving his shop, I ended up sitting on the freeway in stop and go traffic in 110 degree heat and the car started acting up again (cutting out briefly under acceleration). I drove the car up to the next town about 100 miles away and when I stopped the vehicle, I was able to hear a light "groaning" noise from the fuel pump. At this time, it was still about 105 degrees outside. I decided to continue driving. As soon as the temperature dropped as the sun went down and I was driving at a higher elevation, the problem completely went away. I did not have any further problems the remainder of the drive to Lake Tahoe, which was about 350 miles. While driving the car here on vacation, I've put around 350 more miles on the car and have only had 1 incident where the problem re-occured. The problem occured when I drove to the southwest of Tahoe and dropped down to about 2500 feet in elevation and had a temperature change from 80 degrees to probably around 105 degrees. Also, I had been driving for about 80 miles when it the problem started again. As soon as the car cooled down, the problem again went away. I was hoping to see if anyone had experienced a similar problem to this or had any suggestions as to what it could be. It seems that the car seems to start acting up in extreme heat conditions (above 100 degrees). I apologize for the lengthly story, but figured more details are better than less. Thanks, Brian [/code]
  15. Started totaling reciepts, its between $3,100-3,600. I may be over reacted out of frustration and it may be a timing thing too with things breaking. It's been every 4-5th time driving it, something will break... The car does sit most of the time and is driven only a couple times a month. I bought the car as a toy so it doesn't see a lot of drive time between travels for work and driving the 3.0 csi and my motorcycle. I will definately start driving the car more to see if that helps. I am not so mechanically included so Chris Willett in Vegas does all of the repairs on the car and adds significantly to my cost of ownership. He does a good job, but bills seem to add up quick when it's in the shop a lot.
  16. Well, I paid top dollar for Bob Murphy's car because I was hoping to avoid a lot of the "older" car problems. Since it was low miles (about 27,000) when I got it and it had already gone through a restoration in 2000, I was thinking that it would have all the bugs out of it. I have a 75 3.0 CSi that I had restored by the Werk Shop in 06 and have put over 15,000 miles on the car without any problems so I might be spoiled by that...
  17. I don't post a lot on the FAQ, but frequently read through the forums and have talked to a few people from here. For those who don't know me, I purchased Bob Murphy's Tii in September of 2008. Since purchasing the 2002, I've had nothing but problems and wanted to get others take on it. I haven't added all of my invoices for a total yet, but I'm sure that I'm well over $2,000... So far, I've put roughly 3,000 miles on the car over almost 2 years of ownership, and here are some of the repairs that have been made: (list isn't complete, I am having trouble remembering everything) - new A/C compressor - Replaced Hose (Compressor to Condenser) - Replaced Distributor Gasket - A/C bracket - Fuel pump - Fixed the headliner (a few months after I bought the car, it started sagging severely) - speedometer I got the car back from the shop in mid June and fixed some of the problems. I put brand new tires on it and figured I'd take it with on vacation (from Vegas to Lake Tahoe). About 70 miles in on the drive, the speedo craps out. 1 week later on the drive home about 200 miles away, the fuel pump started going and was barely able to make it home before it completely crapped out. Currently, Chris Willett is still attempting to sort out the brake issue with the car. Apparently, the car has a rare brake setup with race pads. Car feels like you are hitting a brick wall when stopping, but when driving around town, the brakes squeek louder than anything I've ever heard... I wanted to get others take on my situation. Are these common problems? Also, what else can I expect to break? I love driving the car and it's a blast, but it seems like everytime I start it, something breaks. Better yet, I just noticed a couple more drops of oil on the garage floor... Last resort option, but if these repairs continue as they have been, the wife will make me sell the car... Thanks
  18. Not a 2002, but here is my 75 3.0 CSi in turkis restored by the Werk Shop
  19. I just put a set of the Sumitomo 205/60/13's on my car and have covered about 1000 miles on them and I don't have any complaints and they seem to ride well. I had the same size in Falkens before, but I don't think they are being manufactured. The Sumitomo are night and day better than the prior. Hope that helps.
  20. Right on. I had a blast driving with you guys for the short distance we covered. The wife had fun, but kept telling me to slow down....go figure. If there are any more upcoming runs similar to the Motherlode 400 rally, I would definately be interested. I'm located in Vegas, but my job gives me a lot of flexibility so I could easily shoot up to Northern CAL for a few days for a similar run.
  21. So the wife and I are vacationing in South Lake Tahoe, CA with my Polaris 74 Tii and the wife found this road, approximatley 45 miles to the west of Tahoe called Icehouse Road in Placer County with tons of curves and scenery. We headed out there about 4:00 p.m. on 6/19 and went down this road about 20 miles before turning around and heading back. While driving back, I check my rearview mirror and all of a sudden there is a white Alfa Romao convertible along with a red 2002, which quickly pass us. Then a second red 2002 appears along with a light blue vintage mini cooper, older 911, and another vintage European sedan I couldn't identify. I wanted to check to see if the 2 2002's were on the FAQ.
  22. The Werk Shop in Lake Bluff will definately handle maintenance. Last time I was there about a year ago, they had acquired a second building in the same location and have the original building designated specifically for maintenance. Before I moved out of state, I had a e9 coupe restored there and after the restoration, they performed the regular repairs
  23. Could you post pictures? I may be interested. Also, were is everything located? Thanks, Brian
