I have several, but I’ve used them for a variety of purposes, including long vowel sounds, making other vowels sound long, and sometimes short vowel sounds. I’ve also been known to indiscriminately pronounce “the” with either a long or short vowel sound. And I guess we should include neighbor and weigh.
If you’re hung up on sourcing a pure Germanic E, I can ask my wife, as she was born and raised in Germany. But I must warn you that she’s from Augsburg, so there may be some residual Swabian sound to her E’s. Definitely preferred with the patina and stance crowds, but not for everyone.
