  1. What a sweetie! Love that Riviera. It's just right.
  2. Here's my original condition '70 Atlantikblau. Here being judged by Ludwig Willitsch, (middle), President of BMW N.A. and with Bobby Rahal. Bobby lived in Cincinnati and I lived in Louisville. We talked about how we'd suck the muscle cars into the roller coaster hills of Kentucky and leave them behind.
  3. Dead stock on XAS 13"s. I think the car looks best with a little bit of a California rake. file:///Users/tschmidt/Desktop/HHI%20.jpg

  5. Sure, you can paint over a Picasso, if you want. Go ahead. It's yours, right? However, if you think these '02's have intrinsic value because of when, where, why and how they were produced, marketed, driven, and that they have had a far reaching implication for motorsports and BMW and the automobile industry in general...then...I would suggest you leave these cars stock. They're only original once. And they're becoming collectable which is to say their worth rises concomitantly. The majority of the 02s have been modded out. Its the rare car that is now stock.
  6. Eventually, with time and scarcity, the 2002 will be valued for it's intrinsic value as a breakthrough automobile and as the savior of the BMW marque. Until that day comes, (and come it will), people will be hot rodding and modding out 2002's for their personal edification. Those cars will be worth considerably less than original models, except to the one specific buyer who appreciates an idiosyncratically modified car.
  7. January 24th at 9am, the Chicago '02 Group will be holding a tech session at the Werk Shop in Libertyville. Address: 729 East Park Avenue, Libertyville, IL 60048 (847) 295-3200. Learn what the pro's know about your '02. http://www.thewerkshop.com/
  8. Back in the day I did the knee moulding "upgrade" on my '70. This after I had a body shop take out a mass of door dings. The knee-moulding was necessary back then because the doors on the American cars weighed a ton, came off their hinges when opened and were virtually uncontrollable, thereafter.

  10. Chicago '02 Group, the Rivertown Gearbusters and anyone else who wants to drive an 2002 to Lafayette, Indiana for some pizza an conversation about our beloved 2002's will be welcome on June 7, 2014. We'll up date this when we know more about the time and place. Your Gonzo.

A few pictures of my all original condition '70 Atlantik.

The Chicago '02 Group's outing with the Chicago area 356 Registry. Just a little drive to the Wis border for lunch. Frankly, we 02'ers have a long way to go to begin to compete, in terms of organization and quality of cars with the Registry.

Getting the Palmetto award at the HH Concours. The Atlantik was the only '02 to podium in a collection of the best BMW's assembled in North America, to date.

Me and Bobby. Back in the early 70's, he had an Inca the same time I had my original Atlantikblau. He grew up in Cincy and me in Louisville. We traded stories of sucking Trans Am's and Barracuda's into the roller coaster hills of Kentucky...and never seeing them again.

Here's what would be the title picture in four page article in the January 2011 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotics. The car was featured as all original, which it is. Naturally, the readership complained I had Mini-Lite's on the car. Rich Lentinello editor of Hemmings asked me to stay after the Survivor Show, where she was judged by him and other experts like McKeel Haggerty for originality. She scored 100 points. Wheels and tires were excluded from the judging criterion. I have the original Michelin XAS's on the original rims.

At the Hilton Head Concours 2011. The guy looking into the engine is Ludwig Wilitsch, president of BMW USA. Nice guy.
  17. It was big fun. Here are some pictures of the event. To be honest, the Porsche 356 Registry look like pro's compared to us. Their cars are either super Outlaws or brought back to concours perfection. We '02'ers have a long march ahead of us.
  18. Yes, dogs and cats living together, peace in the Middle East and the Porsche 356 Registry and the Chicago '02 Group will have a conjoined ride from Chicago to Lake Geneva and back on May 18th, 2013. As far as I know, this has never been done and should be great fun. Stay tuned to this station for further information.
  19. Calling all Chicago Area BMW 2002 owners! Here’s your chance to be part of the Chicago ’02 Group, dedicated to the preservation, enjoyment and general mayhem associated with that iconic model. We have dedicated events during the “driving season”, such as point to point drives, car shows, picnics. We show at Coffee & Classics, Brew City Nights, as well as a handful of races and Concours events throughout the season. The Chicago ‘02 Group is also a good resource for parts, how to fix your ’02 as well as where to buy a good used ‘02. We know you’re out there, so if you’re an Inka, a Sahara, a Malaga or a Baikal please contact us at Chicago02group@gmail.com. And wait’ll you see the neat hats we’ve got!
  20. Where, in the car, did you find it?
  21. I'm most interested. Can you take a picture of it? My email is tschmidt@temprite.com. Super...and thanks. TS
  22. It looks like the picture by the fountain has been over saturated with color, done no doubt by whoever took the picture. Computers are notoriously lousy with displaying color correctly. It's Baikal, but on steroids.
  23. I'm looking for an Amco walnut shift knob with just the Roundel on top...screw on. If you see anything like that I'd be most grateful for a shout. I've been looking for this for about four years, now.
  24. I think the boy kissing thing was hypothetical, as if you might be a girl. Like your parents getting divorced. If he was at Cranbrook, (Romney's alma mater) I doubt if he was gay. Not that there's anything wrong with it.
