I know this is an old thread, but this oil filter seal problem did not go away. Ask me how I know.
The cause of that problem is that the filter used on the M10 engine has a mounting face area of about 6 square inches.
When you apply 100 PSI to 6 square inches you get, you guessed it, 600 pounds of force pushing the oil filter away from the filter adapter. This distorts the mounting face of the filter and allows the seal to pop out. After this happens, the filter will be loose because the sheet metal that contains the mounting thread has permanently changed shape. Repositioning the seal and then remounting the filter is probably not a good idea, since we don't know what happened inside the housing. I know that Ireland Engineering sell a high pressure filter made by Mahle, but they claim that it will only keep the housing from bulging, but will not solve the seal problem. I find it difficult to believe that Mahle did not solve this problem with the heavy duty version of their filter. Does anybody know any more about this Mahle filter?
