  1. IWould like to buy the suit. My email is. jireland@earthlink.net. Please let me know if still available. Jeff Ireland
  2. It's probably not the cam. I have engines with 316 cams that idle fine well below 1000rpm. Timing at idle around 16-18 degrees. What jets, chokes etc. Checked compression on all cylinders? I have had bad carbs before with this issue. Swaped carbs and all was well.
  3. OK I will be going to the shop tomorrow. I am in Sierra Madre ca (near Pasadena). Jeff
  4. Ignition - On my Legrand mk 1 I used a motor cycle electronic ign module. The points on the 700 are difficult to change. The electronic module did not eliminate them but they were used as a voltage switch with not current flow. So they last a really long time.
  5. For about $35 you can send an oil sample to a lab. I got a kit on Amazon recently. Very easy.
  6. If these issues are a new development - maybe change fuel filter and check timing. How did the old spark plugs look?
  7. Here's another for less $$. Invite your friends to hang out in the yard. Apartment for sale in Avaray - Loir-et-Cher - Exclusivity at Château d'Avaray 5-room flat 120m² and a separate studio. Magnificent park France REF: A10782 | [14242]
  8. Hi I'm looking for a wind shield for a 700 sport coupe and the outside door handles. My car is coming back from paint in a few days. During the reassembly I will probably need some more items as well.
  9. I have never seen a piston like that. Maybe it was South African only setup. Standard bore suggests it's probably not rebuilt. It's a bit odd to have a dish but pop the piston through the deck for compression. If you measure how much the piston is above the deck and diameter and depth of the dish. We can calculate the compression ratio. Does the serial number on the block match the chassis? Double check the stroke and block deck height. Measure thickness of the cylinder head.
  10. I was at Nick's place and drove 2 cars with the Dutch units. I was amazed how well it works. If you want power steering this is the way to go.
  11. 6" wheels are actually 7" metal to metal. With 25mm (1") offset they have a back space of 4.5". A bit more would be better but it should be OK. The body/paint shop should be able to easily roll the fenders out to make plenty of clearance. The front fenders are thin and are easy to work.
  12. You can get MLS (multi layer steel) gaskets up to .125" thick so you can save those thin heads down to 4.94" With the normal "thick" head gasket 5.048" should be safe.
  13. I recommend the Auto Passion Cafe in Paris. Formula 1 engines under glass tables, but no cats.
  14. Can you provide more info? For example - after a shutdown does it restart after some cool down time? What sort of driving before shutdown? Nice strong spark? Normally the Pertronix type igniters either work or not, but I have seen a couple that had intermittent problems. I would also check the coil when the problem occurs. If it is very hot to the touch it's the coil. I've seen this a lot.
  15. Yes they look like E21 (250mm) shoes. ALSO-- Most new shoes I've come across don't actually fit the drums very well and require some grinding to fit the inside curve of the drums correctly.
  16. We shipped thousands of packages via UPS and Fedex. Sometimes there was damage. We would file claims which were ALWAYS denied even when we paid for extra insurance. Once the package was returned with a tire mark across it. Obviously run over still denied! If it was significant money, I would call our rep and demand they take care of it. They normally did as a customer service accommodation to keep our business.
  17. You should let us know your budget. If you want to do a proper rebuilt that will last a long time. Or a quick refresh on the cheap. The valuable parts of the M10 are cylinder head, block with front covers and crank shaft. The rest are pretty easy to replace or recondition. I assume you want a 2 liter not a 1.8 for the most HP. The cylinder head is most important so no cracks, not too thin, no heavy corrosion in the water passages. Of course you can not really evaluate a cylinder head with out removing it from the engine. When buying old used engines that are not in running cars, I just look them over and make my best guess based on the asking price. Sometimes I'm lucky and sometimes not so much, but usually not much money is involved.
  18. You need to start from scratch. The off idle driving issue sounds like ignition. Get a proper digital timing light. Set to engine at TDC . You should see "OT" in the window. Mark it with paint so it's easier to see. Rotate the engine slowly and you should find the "ball" at 25 degrees advance. Mark it also. Now check the timing at idle and at 3000 rpm. The only thing you can control is full advance everything else is controlled by the distributor internals. You want 32-34 degrees advance at 3000+ rpm. Then you can use the timing light to check advance at various speeds below 3000. As other suggested -- do a compression test after you adjust the valves Carb jets look about right. I have seen problems with rev limiters. Disconnect it for daily driving. A properly build M10 with 292 cam will pull right past 7000 without damage. Damage is most often done by bad down shifts.
  19. Using a solid coupling on the street is NOT a safety issue. You will feel more "road feel"
