  1. The beauty of the 123 Ignition distributor is the ability to test different curves. The Blue Book has three different curves for the Ti, so not hard to try them all. Getting a good MAP signal is a little tricky with dual carbs. I used a damper on my S14 motor. 2. My brother was taping paper towels to the bottom of the transmission and driving the car around to see if he could identify where it was leaking. This provided results that weren't that conclusive. The dye technique clearly identified that both the input and output seals weren't sealing. So it did work for his case. He had replaced both those seals during the restoration, but with NOS seals that weren't up to the task. Mark92131
  3. My brother restored a 1968 Triumph GT6, still chasing down oil leaks. We used this dye and a cheap UV flashlight (under $15) to help figure out where some of the leaks were coming from. 5. When I restored by 1971 BMW 1600 Cab, I did the rings and bezel edge in silver. Mark92131
  6. @Conserv has posted the 1968 BMW 2002 Sales Brochure that shows silver rings and silver around the edge of the bezel. Not sure what was factory for the 1600 in 1968, but the silver on the gauge rings was pretty thin and wore down to the black plastic with cleaning, so many ended up black unless restored. Mark92131
  7. Slowly, sorting out some idle and tuning issues with the S14 before moving on to interior work. Mark92131 IMG_4135.MOV
  8. After installing my new Koito H4's, I was having trouble getting them to sit correctly while adjusting them. Went back and checked the holes, sure enough, the buckets were installed wrong. Swapped them and everything it good. The "holes" for the win. Mark92131
  9. Did the later speedos have the longer studs and did this correspond to the one piece dash? I converted my 1970 car to a one piece dash and found the studs on my "silver-dollar" speedo weren't long enough to reach the holes in the dash bodywork. Now I have a possible fix, thanks! I learn something new about these cars everyday. Mark92131
  10. Bill will get it right, maybe even wash it for you before you pick it up! Mark92131
  11. That looks like a very worthy project! Before you paint it, you might consider grafting on the correct nose. I spent a few weeks in Perth working on a software startup with some professors at the University of Western Australia. What a great city! It reminded me of my home in San Diego in the early 60's. Have fun and welcome. Mark92131
  12. Everything you are planning seems correct, but if that connection on the carb is above the throttle plates, it is ported vacuum, which is what you need for your setup (no vacuum at idle). If it is below the throttle plates, it should be manifold vacuum. If you were using manifold vacuum, (below the carb throttle plates or a vacuum connection directly on the manifold), then you would need a smaller static idle timing setting without vacuum (3-4 degrees) and then connect the manifold vacuum to bring your idle advance to 12ish degrees total. Easy to check, set your 12 degrees of timing at idle with the line capped at the carb and disconnected from the distributor, then reattach the vacuum line at the carb and distributor and measure the advance at idle. If ported vacuum, it should be still at 12 degrees, if manifold vacuum, it should be higher. Mark92131
  13. Looks great, but will the Tii motor fit with that brake booster? Mark92131
  14. I had the same issue until I loosened up the motor mounts and centered the motor as @Son of Marty suggested. Mark92131
  15. The "OT" line on the flywheel is hard to see, but if you stick a pencil with an eraser on the end down the viewing port with the engine running you can clean off the 25 degree BB, it makes finding the "OT" line easier. Once you line up the "OT" line on the flat side of the viewing port, you can verify TDC on the front crank pulley. For ignition timing, just cap the advance source, adjust the idle on your carb to 1400 RPM, and turn your distributor until the BB appears in the viewing port at 1400 RPM, lock the distributor down and reset your idle to 900ish. If your distributor is working correctly, you should be around 12 degrees BTDC at idle and 38-42 degrees all in (2700 RPM+). Reconnect the advance port on the distributor, cap the retard and you should be good to go. Mark92131
  16. It's a 1 Bar. I'll try to source a 1.4. Thanks, Mark92131
  17. I needed a larger 3 row for my S14 swap but wasn't happy about the custom radiator price stateside ($650+). I started looking at some of the eBay radiators, but most were either too small or too thick. I also wanted some custom features, like the upper tank connection moved to the other side to support the S14 and a additional bung for the S14 head vent. I contacted Winner_Racing_Radiator on eBay, sent them a drawing of the radiator I wanted, worked with them on the custom changes and they built and shipped me the radiator for $350. Slightly more than the stock E10 radiators from the other vendors, but this one actually fits the opening. 18. Temperature Switch #2 in the water jacket under the intake manifold closes at 114 degrees and grounds the Choke relay and the EGR relay. The Choke is powered until the engine reaches operating temperature. The EGR relay powers the Red top valve when the engine is cold (No Vacuum), then powers the Black top valve when the engine is >114 degrees (No vacuum advance). Mark92131
  19. Are you writing the file to the 123 distributor after you make adjustments, not just saving it? You can make adjustments to your curve when the engine is running, but to save it, you need to switch the engine off, but not the ignition. This allows you to save the adjustments you made (Save File) and write the current tune (Write) to the distributor. Once the tune is written, it will be there every time to start the car until you create or read another tune and write that one to the 123 Distributor. I hope this helps. 20. If the notch on the cam shaft is directly under the oil bar and the exhaust and intake rockers on the #1 cylinder are on the backside of the cam lobe, the notch on the crank pulley lines up with the pointer on the timing chain cover, and the "TO" line is lined up with the flat side of the observation hole, then it is safe to assume you are at TDC and you can stab your distributor and determine the position of the #1 spark plug wire on the cap (where the rotor is pointing). Mark92131
  21. I think that jp5Touring was suggesting that you send a PM (private message) to BarneyT to see if he has any photos. Just hover your cursor over the blue @BarneyT button and select Message. You might also try @adawil2002 for pictures of his 1600 Cab. Mark92131
