  1. Yes. Lawrence is the 02 Whisperer. He’s my main guy. I need to get the car safe enough to drive up to him though. I’m in Brooklyn and he’s over an hour away. Maybe even 2. What’s the cost of flatbed service for 100 plus miles?
  2. Thanks for the recommendations. FunElan--- They fabricated a bracket that was thicker than the previous bracket because they claimed the previous installation was not aligned but I never had an issue for 15 years. Then they used the beefier 320i transmission mount. Perhaps these things have thrown it out of whack. I hope my newly balanced/u-jointed driveshaft isnt damaged. How did they fix the your drivetrain problem? Has it been ok since? Ah yes, storing an 02 in Brooklyn is indeed a challenge. First 6 years I had it it was on the street (pre-restoration) 10 years after that I kept it at a friends house with a gated driveway. The last 4 years I was crazy lucky to find a garage close to my apartment.
  3. Hello again all. This has been some weekend with the 02. In addition to the wheel bearing issue I had to deal with, now it seems as though my transmission/driveshaft refresh went awry. On the way back to NY from Maryland, I started experiencing problems with what I think is the driveshaft at highway speed (50-60 mph). Getting up to speed seemed fine but then when I let up on the accelerator I would hear rumbling like the driveshaft is rubbing. Not only is there rumbling/vibration, but the car would swerve. My guess is some misalignment? I did not notice this on the drive down. It seems to happen when the car is in gear (5-speed). I tested deceleration with the car in neutral and the swerve doesn’t occur. Scary stuff but I made it home. Also, in lower gears, there is a scraping noise while driving slow and coming to a stop. Very frustrated at at this re-installation of my tranny. I will be taking it back to the shop but I’m not sure they have the 02 smarts to properly correct the problem. Any recommendations of a shop or technician in Brooklyn who knows these cars and knows the 5-speed modification. My main 02 guy is in Poughkeepsie. I would like to get it to him for a full look-over but I need to get the car road worthy for the hour plus trip. Best regards Albert
  4. Yup. You said it. Have a great weekend all. Cheers
  5. Riis is cool or even Ft Tilden right next door. Either works for me.
  6. If I’m not in the beach chasing stripers (not to be confused with strippers-haha) I’m in. Please keep me posted.
  7. Thanks for all the support and advice guys. Problem solved-bad wheel bearing. The guys here quickly diagnosed the problem and were even able to find the part locally. I should be back on the road shortly. Thanks again Albert
  8. It’s a 5-speed. Just had a tranny/driveshaft refresh. It drives well with no vibration. I made it to a local shop close by. My feeling is is that it’s something in the rear left wheel. They’ll get it up on a lift this morning.
  9. Greetings all. Was wondering if anyone can recommend a good shop on the Jersey side of the Delaware Bridge. Specifically I think I'm in Swedesboro NJ. Not far from Philly. About 14 miles north of the Delaware Bridge Was heading to Maryland from NYC and was driving fine until about 2 hours on the turnpike. Started to hear something knocking underneath in the rear. Not sure if its hard rubber or metal. Not sure if its driveshaft or something in the wheel. The sound is synced with the rotation of the wheel and/or driveshaft. I looked underneath and could not see anything loose or hanging. Car drives well, stops well, turns well. It just seems like there is something loose and knocking the underside–driver side behind the seat. Luckily I found a hotel close to where I turned off on the Turnpike (Exit 2). I'd really like to get this to a shop first thing in the morning. Any recommendations in this area? I could Yelp the best rated shops around here but I figured I'd see if you guys had any recommendations. The car is drivable but I'm not going to chance it on the highway without getting it checked out. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you Albert '71 02
  10. Thanks for the info. Good to know the way it comes off. I assumed it was threaded. I will look for that pry spot on mine.
  11. Greetings all. I was wondering what the best method is to removing the cap covering the screw at the base of the early Hirschmann antennas. Tried searching here but could not really find a proper method. Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks for the info. I knew it had to be something in the design of the bench.
  13. Greetings all. I recently updated my rear seat belts to Autoflug retractable lap belts. Installation seemed fine. Bolts right into where the original Klippans were. I have a '71 02. I am however having trouble getting the bench seat and back cushion back into place. Were the seats designed differently to accomodate the newer style seatbelts? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  14. Hi there. Are you still producing these? I'm interested.
  15. Very nice. What tires do you have on there? Im due for new rubber and have the same wheels. Looking for all season.
  16. Greetings. Can you guarantee this works? I have a 71 02. My hazards have never worked. Replaced relay with new one and still doesnt work. Maybe it needs a 6 volt?
  17. I had the SPAL power window kit installed. I didnt do the installation myself but my friend who did the install said its fairly straight-forward. When I pick up my vehicle I can get specifics. Cheers
  18. I finally had this done after having my 02 for 20 years. Farewell window cranks. IMG_3226.mov
  19. Does anyone know what size Yakima Whispbar will fit our 02s? The way they are mounted fit pretty flush with the mounting towers so the length of the bars are crucial.
  20. Installed speedohut gps speedo. Great product. Had to do some customizing to match number font style and silver dollar discs but I think it looks pretty decent.
  21. Great. I'll give it a shot. My gasket is still good and can still use it so this method doesn't involve destroying it, right? thanks for the tip.
  22. Greetings. Was wondering if anyone knows how to get behind the spring loaded glass on the trapezoid mirror. I need to tighten the bolt in there that secures the mirror to the base.
