  1. yup - ha the race is over! The Derby is great fun. That horse had a great break and just cruised the rest of the way. I loved the downshift and a punch of the throttle at the top of the stretch - Jeff
  2. the thermo-time switch test below is from the Jaymic site. when I did step 5 of the test, the light dimmed but did not go out. the other steps/tests were successful. is it time to replace it? stock 74 tii, well mostly stock or some would say kind of stock thanks for any help Jeff TO TEST THERMO-TIME SWITCH 1. Disconnect plug from thermo time switch. 2. Connect test lamp between battery positive and terminal W on the thermo time switch (W is the terminal that the Brown & Black lead goes to). 3. If the coolant is below 310C the test lamp should light. 4. If in doubt of the engine temperature take the thermo time switch out and cool it down in cold water and carry out the above test with the thermo time switch out of the engine but remember to earth the thermo time switch casing. 5. With the test lamp still connected, connect a test lead from battery POSITIVE to terminal G on the thermo time switch (G is the terminal that the Black and White lead goes to). After a short interval the Bi-metallic strip inside will open and the test light should go out.
  3. yes indeed back in the 70's I did a lot of flashing - I will flash today if there is a euro car of similar vintage. some flash back Jeff
  4. i have been running a Pertronix in my 46 Willys jeep for 12 years without any issues. I installed one in my tii about three years ago - again no issues. to each his own with modifications
  5. Hi Pat Ha - that someone was me at the BAV auto show a couple of years ago. You made the mistake of opening your trunk and there it was. I think I have the first unit you made for sale! Hopefully our winter will be over soon and we can both be out enjoying our cars. take care Jeff
  6. to release the upper compression clips, I used a long thin strip of wood with a tapered but blunt end. I slide the strip up inside the panel until it reaches the top, then I use a rubber mallet to drive the strip upward to release the clips. I work one end to the other slowly raising the panel. very easy to do, and it only takes a minute or two. Jeff
  7. my brother inlaw purchased a 72 240z when new. I drove it a few months after he bought it with my sister in the passenger seat. She never let me drive it again - it was a lot of fun and I still remenber that ride Jeff
  8. it sounds like you had 20 years of repairs that you were happy with and this one time you were not - not a bad record for a shop willing to tackle older cars and calls you after you let them know you were upset to offer money back. Jeff
  9. I had the same problem which was compunded by my wife complaining - geez the're only brain cells. I put a new gasket on and adjusted the trunk but still had the fumes. I ended up buying foam weatherstripping with an adhesive on one side and black foam on the other. It comes in different widths and thicknesses (Lowes). I placed it on the top lip of the trunk seal and it worked perfectly, easy to install and remove if necessary. Cheap to try and you hardly notice it is there even with the trunk open. Jeff
  10. I am about an hour from Pelham but where I work has an office very closy by. what type of help do you need? shipping? inspecting? they could drop them off and then my coworkers will get them to me - i will help with shipping Jeff
  11. i never really liked flat towing my Willys jeep - even with the driveshaft disconnected. Four wheels up on a trailer is always best Jeff
  12. in 1974 no one would call you when you were driving - now, i just let my phone go to vmail - besides it is too loud in the car to talk. Jeff
  13. my wife usually screeches when I get my tii above 4000rpm - I suggest checking your passenger seat
  14. where are you located? If you are on the left coast or close to Arizona, I would suggest Craigslist for options. You may find that if you sell your car or part it out and buy one with only a few body and mechanical issues, you will be happier in the long run. of course if you are attached to your 73, all bets are off. Jeff
  15. I used to own 1660237 - sadly the only thing left is the manual and service book from the glove box. she met an early demise in 1973 with me at the wheel. I remember the night well. Jeff
  16. thanks for the pics, they are a great help Jeff
  17. somewhere in my late night travels around the internet or possibly on this site, I saw a picture of rear shoulder belts where the retractors etc were mounted under the rear deck. If I recall they were in the out board positions. Was it all a dream? Jeff
  18. auto double sided tape for exterior molding is very tough stuff, I think it would work fine Jeff
  19. i purchased either the same unit or one very similar a few years ago. It looked great but the sound at higher volumes distorted and of course our cars need higher volume Jeff
  20. at the least small bumpers on my 74 - from there, possibly carpet and additional sound deadening - after that it will be all about the paint. she looks good now but.................. you know what I mean - it is truly an illness - too bad Obamacare won't cover it Jeff
  21. in 1973 i was in need of a car and living in Boston at the time and I was very aware of the 2002. I ended up buying a 68 from a priest in Portland Maine, that in itself is a great story. I did not have the car too long, it was hit twice by two different yound ladies that were both DUI at the time. Neither were arrested but the second accident was the end of the 02. She was in great shape and I thoroughly enjoyed her. After a few Porsches (356 cabriolet, 912 and a 911), a Peugot, vega etc, I found my way back to BMW and over the course of a few years, three E28's - wonderful cars in the 80's. From there it was Volvos and Suburbans (yuk) as the kids grew up. About four years ago, I was bit by the 02 bug and now have a 74tii - purchased via a member here. It has been great fun sorting her out and making her mine. Jeff
  22. We were at the Bavauto fall show and shine a few years ago when I asked Pat "what the heck is that" when he opened his trunk - the rest is history. Pat is a very clever guy, I am sure he will chime in. Jeff
  23. big storm for tomorrow so I also tucked my car away. If the weather breaks she will be back out but they spread salt last night like it was free. Lots of projects scheduled, already planning my spring trips. I love the 4 seasons but I don't like putting the tii away. The good news is my other love is my 46 Willys jeep, fully restored by me about 8 years ago and now sports a plow all ready to go. Jeff
  24. Hi Rey do you have the conversion kits available? thanks Jeff
