  2. Just called... I hope that backing the parking brake cables and making sure the shoe adjusters are backed off as well. With the drums on and the brakes bled then you adjust the leading shoes tight and back off until there's NO drag first. The trailing shoe next. Then adj the parking brake to 5-7 clicks. Drive the car slowly and stop with the E-brake forwards and backwards to feel if it's grabbing evenly. Adjust as necessarily... Let us know how it turns out...
  3. I helped disassemble.... and will help put it back together.... So, where is the paint and body getting done? And, when do Sean & I get to put it back together? I can't wait to see it with paint!
  4. Maximillian Importing http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com shows a Hirshman antenna #65 21 1 350 776 as currently available for $46.51. My most current price list shows the current LIST price of that antenna at $51.25. For a new factory antenna you can't shake a stick at that $.
  5. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,282904/highlight,euro/ Some one in that thread said that the front chrome bumper didn't line up with the lower side trim.... That's the way ALL Model '71 and later chrome bumper cars are... I answered a front bracket question later.... http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,289344/highlight,bumper/ There are three different styles of front chrome bumper brackets.... 1. Early: #51 11 5 470 020 till model '71. These are NLA and the same Left and Right... 2. Normal: Model '71 till end of production... Different Left and Right! #51 11 1 815 493 Left and "494" Right. 3. USA 1973: triangulated and stick out around 2.5" further than normal. #51 11 1 822 063 Left and "064" Right. There are only two different styles rear brackets. Both are the same Left and Right. 1. Normal: #51 12 5 470 060 2. And the Loop type for 1973 USA cars, again these stick out around 2.5" further than normal. For the '73 US rear ones there are rubber covers that covers the bracket. #51 121 1 823 613 Left and "614" Right.
  6. I guess Chris finally decided to put the Inka CSL on the market. His other BMWs that I know of are... The '74 2002 Turbo, a polaris CSL Alpina (thought to be one of one, Cary Ida's old car, Roundel cover fame) and his current project.... an M1. I'm getting to lend a hand on the M1. It must be nice...
  7. Yes, a "Bavaria" fuel pump is VERY retro chic! And will quietly and reliably feed those 40's just fine. Remember that the 2002TI had only 40 Solex's and a stock cam, the only real differences was a little compression bump from 8.5 to 9.3 to one the mechanical distributor, and larger valves in the otherwise stock head. See my FAQ construction post... for the "Bav" fuel pump part #s http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,294242/start,0/postdays,0/postorder,asc/highlight,/ Follow Paul's timing prescription with your stock distributor and the "butt dyno" timing method and you should be good to go. On the rest of your question. If you take the time to or spend the money to jet, choke and tune those 40's well you can actually get away with using the stock camshaft. That said... you can expect exponential gains from finding someone with or purchasing your own cam removal tool, either factory or the one sold by http://www.2002haus.com/Specialtools.htm AND installing a 292 cam, a good regrind, or Schrick your choice. Then the next step in the power ladder would be to remove the head, increase your 121 head's valve sizes to the Ti, Tii or E12 head's valves, have it rebuilt and ported to match whatever cam choice you made. Next would be to rebuild the rest of the motor with a little higher compression, like the 2002Ti's 9.3 to one... Next... how fast do ya' wanna spend?
  8. Paul, have you tried a vacuum advance dizzy? I've seen that they've got much more advance in them. and tend to work better on carbed '02s. Good for power and economy. I've been thinkin' about firing up my Grandfather's old Sun distributor machine and playing around with some curves. With that and my friend's wide band O2 meter.... mmmmm tasty. 32 to 36 degrees max advance is good for many '02s. Any decent advance timing light and the butt dyno is the way to go. BUT, for the inexperienced using a timing light for the first time, the blue book method is bomb proof. Take notes fellas, tests are next week.
  9. Ouch! Dueling VANOS... I hope you're changing the oil separator while you're in there. OR... is that motor just plain toast and the car waiting for a long block in the pretty BMW box. I like changing motors that come in those boxes. :-b If the timing cover looks like that just imagine what's lurking inside those VANOS units. I just loovve it when the oil filter disentigrates from 20k + on it...... Have any M54 head bolts pull the threads out due to severe overheating yet?
  10. Welcome to Northern CA. As Sherman said I am in the area (drive past Dixon twice a day) and would be glad to tweak the car for lower level running. Email me for my Cell #. What brings you to sunny CA? The Bay Area '02 group has a drive planned for April 12th if you're still in the area by then. http://www.bayarea02.com/events/events.html http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,303667/
  11. It has not been posted to the Bay Area 02 site yet but soon will. http://www.bayarea02.com/events/events.html Hope to see many new faces there! Morgan Territory Road Adventure Co-host Larry Ayers Meeting place: Danville Livery & mercantile, near Piatti & Forbes Mill Time: 10:00 AM Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=san+ramon+valley+rd+%26+sycamore+valley+rd,+danville+ca&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=0.096846,0.131321&ie=UTF8&ll=37.811344,-121.995277&spn=0.023971,0.03283&z=15 Meeting place directions: • Take I-680 North or South to Danville; exit Sycamore Valley Rd. West. After a short block cross San Ramon Valley Rd. then enter the parking lot on your right. Meet near restaurants. • Bagel/coffee shop in plaza; public restrooms nearby. Gas stations on corners (note: I think their prices are at least as high as in San Francisco). Lucky and Longs are across San Ramon Valley Rd. Lunch: Ed’s Mudville Grille, Clayton: [http]. This is a sociable place, and they are clearly proud of their beers. Expect to encounter local sports teams, and possibly dine alfresco. Drive discussion Morgan Territory Road is now open, and is a slow short cut on the East side of Mt. Diablo to travel from the Livermore area to Clayton and Concord. Our route to Clayton is about 45 miles. We will drive east on Sycamore Valley Rd., continuing on Camino Tassajara Rd. when that joins from the left, to Blackhawk and past new homes to the edge of the Contra Costa urban development line. Shortly thereafter we will turn left onto Highland Rd. for some twisty (but not too fast...) roads through the green hills, continuing left on Manning Rd. to Morgan Territory Rd. Here we start North, climbing the hills on a road that quickly becomes 1.5 lanes wide (a 2002 can pass a full size pickup truck, barely, without leaving the pavement). Look back, if you can, and see the Livermore valley spreading before you, green with grass and spotted with wildflowers. We will pause at the Morgan Territory Regional Park gravel parking lot, for a Mt. Diablo view, photos as desired, urgent pit needs, and perhaps to see a llama head out on the trail. Then we continue North on the narrow, rough road (but paved, and no potholes big enough to swallow a BMW), with many blind curves, ducking in and out of tree cover. Of course, we will be careful of bicycles, motorcycles and any other vehicles we encounter at the next bend in the road. After a while the pavement improves and the road widens to a narrow two lanes. After passing a Cinnabar mine lake (Superfund site), we turn left onto Marsh Creek Rd. to continue into downtown Clayton (including a with bronze kids). But be careful, Marsh Creek Rd. makes some surprising turns (such as a left turn where it meets Clayton Rd. just past the school). Lunch destination: Ed’s Mudville Grille – 6200 Center St. Clayton, 925-673-0330) I'm expecting 15-20 of you to join me for curvy roads, green hills and a view; see you Saturday, 12 April! 13. '68-73 US 2002s had multi piece carpet in German Wool Loop while.... '74-76 2002's had "one piece" Wool Loop w/ smaller loops. 14. I TRY to provide valid usable information and get only.... confusion and ARGUMENT! ARRRG!![/i]
  15. Here's the STORY.... Someone a long long long time ago decided to develop a California legal Weber 32/36 kit for the 2bbl Solex equipped BMW 2002's. WHY I don't know but they did their homework and got the Weber 32/36 3B DGAV kit legalized meaning (C.A.R.B California Air Resources Board) under Executive Order (E.O.) number D-157 (for the Jam Engineering kit) and # D-133 (for the Redline Weber kit)and these diagrams are supposed to be used to re-arrange various vacuum hoses/lines and to remove "dashpot" and plug off the White Magnetic Valve when installing one of these kits. Most of you never knew that the Weber 32/36 was legal or illegal. Here in sunny California on "Smog Exempt" vehicles all the original equipment is still supposed to be there and in operational order unless that equipment has C.A.R.B exemption. Now I am NOT the smog police, I am just the teller of truth. The Legal Weber 32/36 kits are available from almost any of your favorite BMW parts suppliers..... (only a partial list) Redline Weber: one of the originators of the kit. http://www.redlineweber.com/html/application_guide/BMW.htm Jam Engineering: as far as I know, they are THE originators of the kit. http://www.jameng.com/products/index.phtml?section=2 Top End Performance http://www.racetep.com/weber/bmwkit.html Korman Autoworks http://www.kormanfastbmw.com/2002indu.htm And many other pedestrian auto parts suppliers... http://www.statracing.com/pn/webs101043608.asp http://www.prostreetonline.com/m/bmw_carburetor-kit.asp

  17. I've seen it done. An old friend of my Dad's did it to one of his '02s. I do know that the grilles had to be trimmed at the kidney. Unfortunately I was around 6 years old and didn't see him do it, nor does my Dad have any pictures of it. Many years later that friend gave me the grilles. One of these days I might put them to use......
  18. Compare these diags for the Webers to the stock Solex ones on http://www.dagsites.com/ and the differences should be apparent. Yes the carb in the Weber diagrams IS the Solex. They are only modified versions of the original BMW diagrams and NOT new drawings. If the kit you got was the K-8205 BMW DGAV 32/36 33B kit for 2002's it would have included these diagrams.
  19. Sahara is one of the great timeless colors, I wouldn't change it. That said; it I were to do a complete color change on an '02 I would pick a factory color that is truly timeless like my cousin Matt's 045 Arktis Blau Metallic '74 tii.... http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/topic_view,threads/p,370200/t,282904/ Mint Grun is great if the '70's colors stay in fashion forever. I like it but it's not for everyone. IMHO in the long run you'd please more potential buyers by keeping the color original.
  20. I like to run the charcoal canister hose to the small vacuum port on the stock air filter housing. Even though the diagram shows to run a ported vac hose to the air cleaner I never have. And for that matter it would be a pretty big vacuum leak!
  21. The ones on http://www.dagsites.com/ are for the stock 2bbl Solex DTITA equipped late '72 to '76 2002's. NOT for the Weber K-8205 BMW DGAV 33B32/36 kit. (I.E. C.A.R.B California Air Resources Board legal) I couldn't find them online or in the FAQ so I provided them.
  22. Fuel evaporative vapor purge valve. It goes to a brass nipple on the underside of the throttle body. The original boot gets fragile after so many years. I like to replace it with a length of BMW 8mm x 13mm fuel hose and a couple of clamps.
  23. I've seen the '74's have both early and late style shift bushings/couplers. If yours has the pin at the bottom of the shifter that has a set screw retaining it then the bushings in the FAQ store are for you. If your shift arm that connects the shifter to the coupler at the trans is held in w/ C clips than you have the later style. 2/74 was the official cutoff for the early vs. late shifter styles, meaning that 3/74 and later should have the late style. I've seen either style of shift linkage on many different years of '02s from early 1600-2's to '76 2002's! These cars are 35+ years old who knows what previous owner/mechanic has done to the things. shifter, arm, lever, bushing, ball cup, yellow plastic washer...
  24. Since no one could help me in my earlier post... I decided to figure it out myself. Go figure? http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/p,492700/#492700 I figured out that why not just take a picture of each diagram to see how they turn out... well here they are.... Mainly for those who still have to pass smog/emissions tests when using the Redline Weber K 8205 32/36 (Smog) EMISSON LEGAL (CARB) C.A.R.B. Exemption D133-6 Kit. 1976, 76 1975, 75, 1974, 74, 1973, 73, 1972, 72, vacuum, hose, diagram, chart, magnetic valve......
