  1. I remember back in the early 90's, 02's were going for cheap in So Cal. It doesn't take much of an impact to total an 02. It's much easier for an insurance company to total an older car than deal with repairs. I had two 74 2002's declared a total loss in the mid 90's and value was around 3K each. I received checks for around 3K each minus the amount I bought them back for. First one was definitely totaled by a red light runner, I bought that one back for $125 and parted that one out. The second one was rear ended and I bought that one back for $200, fixed that one and drove it for several more years before I parted it out. After the first 02 was totaled in 1994, I bought the second one for $750 and drove it home, those days are long gone. We need more info on what generated a rebuilt title, collision damage from 30-40 years ago? Hopefully all maintenance records are available with the car. You're going to have to go back through all the past receipts to see if you have find any receipts for auto body work. Also look for any old insurance company account #'s (proof of insurance) and contact that insurance company to see if they have any past history on claims paid out. Good luck in your search. You've got some research to do.
  2. Steve, I won't make it to this year's So Cal Vintage. The sticker that you put on my beverage container at last years So Cal show is showing wear and tear. I may hit you up for another sticker soon.
  3. I found mine in a pik-a-part yard, it's now in my 74 tii.
  4. Another way to get more light in your non-sunroof 02 is to install an E30 map light mirror. Since the dome light wiring is always hot, you can splice the map light wiring inro the dome light wiring.
  5. Mike, they are E21 steelies. I said that in my original post. I'll trade all 12 E21 wheels for four 02 square tail light steelies.
  6. Anyone that can ID these wheels? Aftermarket 13X7 4X100 wheels that came off an Opel GT. There are no markings stamped into the wheels.
  7. I could get some frosty beverage replenishment funds by taking them to the local scrap metal recycling yard. Instead I posted an ad in the FAQ classifieds, WTT all 12 wheels for four square tail light steelies.
  8. Seller gave me 12 E21 wheels, six steelies and six turbine aIloy wheels. All the wheels are 13X5.5 ET18. I thought the steelies were off an 02 since the seller had three 02's. Undecided what I'm going to do with them yet. Will probably keep four of the alloys.
  9. Want to trade 12 E21 13X5.5 ET18 steelies and alloy wheels for four 02 steelies (similar style to E21 steelies) for a square tail light 02.
  10. I'll take a square tail light 02 with Euro bumper conversion over a roundie any day. Having owned a Euro spec 02 while in the Air Force stationed in Germany, I know that diving board bumpers are not the look that BMW intended. That look was forced on buyers by the DOT after intense lobbying by the insurance companies. Here's my story of my 74 tii conversion. It's a restomod special.
  11. E21 Recaro seats only came in black. I found mine st a pik-a-part yard. took mine to a local auto upholstery shop to redo in tan.

  13. My former tii was a Frankenstein. It had been hit many times, lots of body parts replaced, along with rust and copious amounts of bondo. Instead of throwing money at it to fix it, I decided a fresh start was necessary. I traded my 85 Euro spec E28 525e for a 74 tii shell. The polaris paint was totally shot on the E28 and it was a eta car so no big loss. Before everything was transferred over from my Frankenstin tii into the shell, the Euro bumper conversion was done, US spec side marker lights were deleted and then the tii was repainted into its original color, Sahara.
  14. I like the look of #3. Any thoughts of going to 14" or 15" wheels since decent 13" tires are going the way of the dinosaur in the US market? See pics of my Sahara tii with 15" wheels on page 94 of this thread.
  15. Here's the story. https://www.bmw2002faq.com/forums/topic/236478-original-tii-motor-question/#comment-1316327
  16. I've never seen E30 steelies come in silver. The silver E30 steelies are due to someone painting them silver. That is easily done with a can of silver rattle can wheel spray paint. https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E30-325i-M20_2.5L/Wheels/OEM_Steel/
  17. Spend some time in this thread before you spend any money on tires and wheels. I bought some 15X6 ET12 Alpina replica wheels that looked great on my 02 but didn't last long on my 02 due to rubbing issues. Do not buy wheels because they are a great dea, they look good, etc. Buy them because they have fit properly and have the correct offset. These 15X7 ET25 Amil wheels look great and have the correct offset.
  18. I'm devastated at this news. Wends and I both had Sahara 74 tii's. He was adamant on keeping the stock diving board bumpers while I kept encouraging him to do a Euro bumper conversion. Here are pics of Wends and my tii side by side at last years So Cal Vintage in Van Nuys. RIP Wends, you'll be missed.
  19. For So Cal Vintage 2022 in Van Nuys. We left Colorado Springs in my tii, picked up US hwy 50 near Canon City and headed west. Went over Monarch Pass (Continental Divide, 11,300 ft) in a major snow storm in late October. Glad I swapped out the Yoko summer performance tires for a set of all season tires. It would have been a recipe for disaster with the Yoko's in the snow. Continued on 50 across Colorado. Picked up I-70 in Grand Junction and took that across Utah and took hwy 50 again in Salina Utah where it leaves I-70. Stayed on US hwy 50 across western Utah and Nevada. US hwy 50 in Nevada is known as "the loneliest road in America," you go for miles without seeing another vehicle. There is nothing out there. We picked the perfect time of year to drive it since my tii doesn't have AC. The road goes across numerous desert valleys and basins to mountain passes (7K elevation). Traveling this road was on my bucket list. Highly recommend this route in the Spring or Fall. Picked up I-80 near Reno and took that to the Bay area where we stayed a few days there. Then drove south to the So Cal Vintage show. Epic journey! Left my tii at Jack Fahuna's shop in Van Nuys after the show and flew home. Jack installed the original motor (matching VIN) that was found in the back of Jack's shop and recently rebuilt to Euro specs. The motor had out of my car for over 20 years. I flew back to Van Nuys in December and drove it home the boring way, interstate hwy.
  20. Recommend Franktown collision and restoration garage in Franktown CO. They have experience with 2002's. They are on FB. Do a Google search on them.
  21. +1 on I've seen worse. Key question, how good is your welding expertise? If you have welding experience, it will make a great project car. If you want somebody else to do the welding, it will be cost prohibitive and end up being a parts car.
  22. Coupe King sells the front license plate bracket to mount the front license plate to the front bumper. 2002/E9/E3 License Plate Bracket (FRONT) SHOP.COUPEKING.COM This is a front stainless steel front license plate bracket for your BMW 2002, E9 CS Coupe, or E3...
  23. Best visual upgrade is converting from fugly US spec diving boards to Euro bumpers. If you like park benches as bumpers, keep them. From the pics, the PO's have done a great job with the tasteful upgrades. Spend some time in this thread to learn more. Welcome and ask lots of questions.
  24. 15X7 ET26 open lug MSW basketweaves on my tii.
