  1. Try Bill Holmes shop on Mussey Grade Rd near Ramona. Do a forum search on Bill and you'll see lots of recommendations. He can dial a tii in better than anyone. 760 789-2002 His shop is in the middle of nowhere but he does excellent work, highly recommend him G-Man
  2. The only reason to "preserve" the VIN, if the original car is expired, is to screw a buyer or your insurance company. Either way, it costs us ALL money. What Adam is saying is that if you have a rust bucket tii, move all your tii specific parts to a clean shell and transfer the VIN to the shell. It's not screwing a buyer if all tii specific parts are there. The car is not wrecked so it's not screwing over the insurance company. Tii's are primarily traded among enthusiasts so most enthusiasts will hopefully disclose the history of the car to a potential buyer. If you are smart, before you buy an 02 or tii, email Andreas at Mobile Tradition with the VIN and ask for the history of the car. You'll find out the correct color and if it's not the right color of the car from the factory, caveat emptor if the seller did not disclose a VIN swap. I wouldn't have an issue of buying a clean tii from someone if I knew that all specific tii parts were transferred to the shell. What's the difference between a tii and a regular 02? It's bolt in parts. Under the hood is the no snorkel and the bracket on the inner fender for the air cleaner mounts. That can easily be welded in before the tii parts are transferred to the shell. the dash can easily be modified to accept a tii clock. I'm condoning it because VIN swap is illegal but it does happen to keep them on the road. G-Man

  4. Not mine, no affiliation, etc... http://reno.craigslist.org/cto/1430300670.html This E21 will never pass CA smog in it's current form. Great track/autocross car or great parts car for your 02. Drop the drive train in to your 75 or earlier 02 here in CA and you would have a hot little 02 (but would be a bitch to keep in tune with DCOE's and a 304 cam). Maybe a great car for someone who lives where smog testing is not an issue. G-Man

  6. Best restoration candidate award. If so, my 85 Euro spec E28 will win hands down (needs paint). If the award includes paint and body work, I'm bringing it:>) The award should be titled best car to "offend and horrify" in the E3 tradition. G-Man

  8. I recommend visiting two independent BMW shops -La Jolla Independent BMW in La Jolla, Carl Nelson has an incredible 02 parts stash. If you've ever been in his "attic", you'll know what I'm talking about. http://www.bimmerdoc.com/ -Bill Holmes shop near Ramona off of SH 67 on Mussey Grade Rd. 14054 Mussey Grade Rd, Ramona, CA 92065 (760)7892002 Bill can dial a tii in better than anyone I know. Bill will be at So Cal Vintage BMW meet in LA tomorrow. Do a search on Bill in the FAQ forum search and you'll see he's one of the good guys in the 02 community. 9. I agree, I think they are 325ix wheels so I recommend you pass. Offset is way too much for a 02. G-Man
  10. They aren't Rota R20 but they are 15X6 wheels with 195/50-15 tires on my 74 tii http://www.2002haus.com/gmantii.htm G-Man
  11. Ditto on Ireland Engineering, my tii has poly bushings from IE installed. G-Man
  12. I recommend 195/60. I ran that size for years on both bottlecaps and basketweaves and my car was lowered with Eibach's, Bilstein sports. The only rubbing problem I had was when I turned from a flat surface onto a steep driveway. I just learned to do it slower. G-Man
  13. Steve, I'll be rolling through Santa Barbara around 7 in my 2800. I'll even let you lead so you want have to follow me. I'll follow you for a change and eat your dust (and rocks). G-Man

  15. Not mine, no affiliation, etc... http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/cto/1414604833.html Original paint was golf yellow, looks a good project car, bring a trailer and make an offer. G-Man
  16. I was there at Oktoberfest, BMW world, and the museum this time last year. I highly recommend that you do not go to Oktoberfest on a weekend, it's way too crowded. Go on a weekday and you'll enjoy it much better. You will notice that you will not see old cars around except at the museum. It's very rare that you will ever see an 02, E12/E21, etc... on the road. 18. If it's already got a Nissan 3.0L motor, and you've got a spare M20 motor, this 02 may be a good candidate for your M20 conv. G-Man
  19. You guys are awesome, I drove up after work to 2002 Haus in SLO (only 30 miles away) and picked up an oil line from Rob. I know what I'll be doing after work tomorrow to get the tii running. I miss driving it. I've been driving the E30 M20 eta and just isn't the same. Feedback like this is why this site rocks. Thanks again G-Man
  20. I had 195/60 on my E30 basketweaves on my 74 tii, no problems at all unless I had the wheels turned all the way to go from a flat surface to a steep driveway. My tii has Eibach's and Bilstein sports so it's lower than stock. G-Man
  21. Driving my 74 tii at night a few weeks ago, the oil pressure light flickered for a second and then went off. As soon as I saw the light I was reaching for the ignition to turn it off. The light briefly went on a block from my house so I slowly drove it back to my house and parked it. This weekend I started looking for the oil leak. The tii had lost a lot of oil so I jacked it up, poured several quarts in, started it up and began to look for the leak. Found it, the oil line from the oil filter housing to the tii injection pump was leaking at the oil filter housing. I pulled the battery but there still is very little to no room to get a wrench in there to loosen or tighten it up. Any tips on how to remove this line? I can't tell if the line is broke or if the bolt that goes into the housing is lose, it seemed tight to me so I'm thinking the line is bad where it goes into the bolt at the oil filter housing. Anyone had problems with this oil line? G-Man
  22. Wrong section, this should be in the classifieds forum
  23. WTF, an M3, M5, 850i, a 2000 E46 323i conv, etc...Wow, check out the list of cars that were traded in for C4C. Then again, the cars we view as enthusiast cars may have rust buckets, salvage title, etc... http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/24/shed-a-tear-for-clunkers-that-deserved-better/ G-Man
