1976 BMW 2002 Sunroof
This car was originally going to be a street legal hillclimb car, so it was chosen for its solid chassis with no rust and no damage. The interior was stripped, and an SCCA rear roll cage was added. Next, the drive train was addressed. The performance engine was built by the pros at Apex Vintage Sports & Racing Cars in North Carolina. It has new pistons, magnafluxed rods, ARP bolts, oil pan baffle, a 292 cam, urethane hoses, etc. It is equipped with a 38/38 carb. The lightened flywheel was mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Scheel seats were installed. Urethane bushings, a new pedal box, and Bilsteins were installed. The manual sunroof works.
The car was driven from North Carolina to Arkansas and then to Florida in its current state, for the 2018 Mid-America event, so it is a solid running driving car. Cosmetically, this car is a canvas. It can complete the journey to more of a competition car, the cage can be unbolted to return it to a pure street car, it can be enjoyed as-is, or anything in between. I grew to like it as-is, as a complement to my stock roundie tii.
A major downsizing is the only reason that this is offered for sale. It comes with the complete set of original beige seats, a set of gold-centered 13" BBS rims, and the original front bumper. The mandatory box of misc parts, and a folder of receipts including the engine rebuild is included. Clear title.
