  1. The point with these tyres on your cars is they dont 'BREAK' they gentley start to move under neath you as the contact point rolls around the shoulder of the tyre as the car leans. A modern tyre on an old car breaks loose. ( see the hightly technical diagram attached.) this is another example of progressive handling is when you have next to no grip and a sold bar of steel for a back axle driven by chains instead of one of those sissy differential thingies. <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Flongstonetyres%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0ECULVJkWypjiW44rb6vo1e6DyqYdPD3k91QxbGrRrE4aePAcTdZqsm1ZAuuYELRul&show_text=true&width=500&is_preview=true" width="500" height="347" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share"></iframe> Mine is the bare alluminium boat tail one with the cheakey up the inside overtaking manouver 40 seconds in. 5. I took a wood turning class a few weeks back at my local maker space. I wanted to turn a shift knob and after about 5 practice knobs, I got one that I'm pretty happy with. It's walnut with a piece of baltic birch ply sandwiched in the middle. It made my car a lot cooler.

  6. The rev counter might give you a clue what's going on... If the rev counter drops immediately to zero then that indicates the low tension ignition circuit has stopped working... If the rev counter falls more slowly in-line with your speed, then your issue is more likely fuel related.

  8. I have done some posts on here about tyres coming back in stock. however this quiz is a bit more fun. This is Vintage Top Gear episode 1 and just to show how seriously we take tyre safety here is some tyre testing. As a general knowledge Quizz. what is the 2 independent conections between my cars used in these films and BMW?

  9. This one got my attention. For years (mostly '70's and '80's) the '73 we had as our only car (for 34 years) at the time would die if I turned hard to the right - expressways clover leaves, sharp intercity corners, etc. Just die. I learned to bounce and shake the car to get it going again. Eventually, as I recall (and if correctly) the battery was shifting forward and the pos post was contacting a body sheet metal screw. Would that have caused it to die? I secured the battery and don't recall any more problems. Maybe I dreamed all of this; however, I think it really did happen. Hey, that was 40-50 years ago...

  14. Yes you can change the front part of the transmission case (with integral bell housing) with the one from a M10 based gearbox. You need to make sure to get the proper bearing spacers and preload set correctly. It is a fairly easy swap if you have ever had one of these gearboxes apart and understand what is inside. If you just start taking things apart you will probably have things fall out of the case and not know where they came from or how to get them back in place.

  17. That being said, its almost impossible to buy nice chrome grills cheap. Complete chrome grill sets often sell for $1500+ USED. Please note there are 2 version of the chrome grills, deep (Early cars) and shallow (middle cars) headlight buckets. I believe you want the shallow buckets. 19. I'm not going to be much help, as I have a strong allergy to stants and bagz, but I've never seen an off- the- shelf product that will bagz a 2002. Any strut converzion will werkz, but the stock travel of a 2002 front suspension is relatively short and relatively high for the stants. t please pardon my poor hipster, as it's not my first language.

  27. +1 Agreed. These started life with an e21. Admittedly, ‘02 owners, by the very late 1970’s, were mounting them on ‘02’s — with a bit of luck, depending on tire size, tire brand, camber, suspension mods, and rolled fender lips. But the offsets were perhaps ET13, rather than the ET25 to ET29 one would prefer for an ‘02. They’re generally dated, often show the offset. The part number should also take you to the parts catalogue, where the ET is usually shown, if it’s not cast into the rims. Best regards, Steve

  30. I played around with their online tool today and 2 bends, one hole, ans no finishing besides deburring in stainless steel was around $30 for a single piece and then you get price breaks for multiples. That might be without shipping. If you have a file you can upload it and get a quote.

  31. "These are the original BMW Motorsport wheels for 2002s. Pics below" Im not sure the above statement is true for the 2002s. Perhaps for e21 but BMW motorsport wheels?...hmmmmm Not back then. Alpina was.

  33. With your engine idling, move the connector to the PerTronix on the distributor. The wires tend to break inside the insulation due to the engine movement. Maybe your engine is rocking just enough during a turn to pull the black wire on the connector. If the engine shuts off, then replace the connector and make sure you have enough slack in the wire to allow movement.

  34. The way it turns off with no sputter makes me think ignition carbs generally sputter as they die.

  35. Check the floats. It sounds like they are super low and the fuel is sloshing and starving the engine. Take the carb apart, send pictures with the floats low and high. What did you replace in the carb? Why did you feel it needed to be rebuilt? The ireland dizzy is kinda suspect. They are known to fail (a lot). If the motor mounts are pooched, the motor can lean over and tip dislodge the dizzy (this is a stretch). Always go to the thing you tinkered with last.

  39. Modell 73 (74-76) were squaretail cars with the black plastic grilles and larger center kidney. 68-73 02s were roundies with chrome grilles and the more slender kidney. You have the later grilles & kidneys, with an early nose.

  40. of course, it also means you can use this transmission to put an M54B30 into your 2002* and have 230 rwhp and 220 ft- lbs of torque. Which moves my E46 around pretty nicely, so your 2002 would move almost half again as nicely. t *some fabrication required.

  41. Actually it doesn’t, close but no cigar. Wishing won’t make it so, sorry. You mean pull the innards and install into an M10 correct case? Not sure if that would work. There is no “bell housing” per se, the bell housing and trans case are one single cast piece.
