at first blush, i thought that was a pretty lame way to route the wire, but on closer inspection, i bet if you look closer you'll find a repair to the door brake bracket.  tack a piece of weld rod to the bent metal and pull out as best as practicable, then tack weld in place.  spray some rust proofer in the cavity while you're there.

True, that is the only way to access the door strap end when is time to replace it.

Jerry you are right on, someone did attempt to repair the bracket.  Thanks for the tip on using the tacked on welding rod to pull the metal back into place.  It is very convenient having that gaping hole to access the area, but I think I am going to weld it up and metal finish the area though. The other side had broken the spot weld on the bracket, but I drilled a hole in the jamb and plug welded it back in.
