wireing issues/starting control unit saftey belt

Recommended Posts

i was wondering if anyone has had any experience dealing with the starting control unit saftey belt. ?

as of right now my starter wont get power when i turn the ign.

I've. pulled the starter relay and put a jumper wire in place of it and the starter works when i turn the ignition.

and when the key is at the hault position the gauges turn on and in any other position they won't.

should i replace the control unit to solve my problems? and does anyone have one or know some one who does?

by the way the body and wiring harness is a 74 auto and the engine and trany are a 75 manual.

"gurt-anlass-steuergerat" and part is#1357360

No telling exactly how things are wired with all the changes its been through.

These seat belt interlocks are a mystery to me. Never dealt with one directly.

If you want to turn the starter over you could bypass the existing wiring and run a wire from terminal #50 on the back of your ignition switch to terminal #50 on your starter.

That your gauges light up in HALT but not in the RUN position may be due to a faulty ignition switch or incorrect wiring at the ignition switch.

Here's a link to a late 2002 schematic that you can download and print out. Instead of trying to get the seat belt interlock circuits to work - bypass it.

Thank you! This should help. The info you posted about the ignition switch is much more detailed than any other info I've been able to obtain about it. and simple. witch is always better. I'll give it a shot after work tomorrow.

and yes it is very funked up! I've had this thing for six years and it shore has given me hell. but I'm thinking this is the last and final problem for awhile other than regular tune ups and what not. well at least i hope so. lol Thanks again I'll let ya no how it all works out

... it's simple. Unplug the Interlock Control Unit. Store it in a safe place. At the control unit socket, attach a wire between pin 31 (ground; brown wire) and pin 31b (starter relay ground; brown/black wire). Replace the Starter relay if absent.

That should completely bypass the seat belt/starter interlock. The starter should run when you turn the key to start.

Try that and post the results, which will depend on what was done with the neutral safety switch wires.

now i need to trace wire # six on the plug for the cluster. since the guages turn on in hualt also going to look at that ign tumbler they seem to hooked up correctly but i better get the multi meter out.

looks like it hooks up with the horn relay I'm going to make sure those are hooked up correctly to the right spaids since we were messing with that relay on sunday. yous guys are the bees nees and the cats meow.

HELL YA!

i don't under stand why it works but it does.

the starter functioning makes sense and i thank you guys for all the info on this redic. issue.

what i don't get is that i put all four of my green wire on terminal 15. two wires on the left one and the other two on the right one. and this leaves the turn signal terminal empty. now i have all of my electrical function properly. all the lights and cluster work the way they're suppose to. don't get it but thats ok

all that is left is to bleed the clutch and get out the timing light, and i'm hitting the road. my work is not done though. the engine still has to be broken in and that will take some time. but at least i can get from point a to point b now. no more borrowing my moms VW beetle to get places. i mean it is a total babe magnet. what girl wouldn't dig a guy in a red beetle. lol
