Dip stick adjustment

Well, the small hose that held on the dipstick tube to the engine block was leaking, so I got a similar length of hose from my mechanic. I removed the old hose and marked the top part of the guide to set the upper dipstick tube & hose in at the same place. Well after I remounted it, the dipstick would not go in cleanly and hit the top portion of the metal tube comming from the block. So I had to push down the mount to make the top tube meet the bottom tube so there was no "catch" of the dipstick when inserting. Now my dip stick is not accurately indicating the level!?!?! I had to losen the mount to the carb and drop it down slightly as well. I can't figure out why it went in unobstructed with the old connection and seems to be blocked after I replaced the small hose. I used the exact shape, type and length as the other. Any tips??

Thanks in advance.

....well after you position the tube/hose so the stick

goes in and out to your approval, and tightened,

drain the oil and filter, refill with 4.5 quarts of oil,

start motor, full warm-up motor, shut off on level ground,

let sit for 10 minutes, THEN CHECK THE OIL LEVEL AND MARK

YOUR DIP STICK TO THE NEW "FULL' MARK.
