Is it worth it?

Okay, so my friends dad is selling me there 02 for $400 dollars sounds good right and it runs and everything just minor problems but the thing is it hasn't been registered since 07'. Is it worth it?

This can't honestly be answered without more information. Is there the potential that the parts are worth $400 or more, yes. Is there the potential that you could sink a couple grand into this $400 car and still have a car that is only worth $400, yep, that could happen too. Pics (and lots of them) of all the major structural parts of the car, the engine bay, the interior, the rockers, the strut towers, etc etc etc are the only way for someone to give you a ballpark. My guess is it'll be something that'll get you around for a while, but unless you plan on fixing it up so it's no longer worth $400, it'll break down on you.

IF it can be registered?, pass what ever State Inspection

your at another $400 already.

Yes, if you are no where near me. No, if you are close.. :)

Worst case scenario, if its a basket case that can't be registered, you part it and generate a small profit to put into your driver..

Before you buy it, you said the seller hasn't registered it since 07, hopefully the seller registered it non operational. If not, be prepared to pay some back fees. I would check with your local DMV to see if there are any back fees, parking tickets, etc.. due when you first register the car The DMV can run a check on the license plate and VIN.

If it runs, go for it. Sounds like a great project car.

Buddy of mine bought a '66 Olds a while back for $150. Took it home to clean it up, and found $300 in (mildewed) cash stashed under the carpet under the back seat. You just never know . . . . .

I really donot think that you should buy it. I feel that it's a bad idea. $400.00 for a running 2002 is way to low, from a family friend....

This car is not for you HOWEVER if you can give me the gentleman's phone # I can save you alot of GRIEF, I will take one for the team and buy it for myself =)...Of course only to save you the trouble & potential disappointment/pleasant surprise......

Man buy the car you can't lose even if the car is not registered as non-op parts alone can be sold for $400.00 plus....

My vote is go for it

In a world that wants short answers:

--If the paint is shiny

--If you walk around it and see no rust at all

--If you open the trunk and see no rust on the rear shock towers

--If you open the hood and see no rust on the front shock towers

--If you stick your head under the rocker panels and floor and frame rails and see no rust there as well

--If the interior is largely intact (clean headliner, unripped seats)

--If it runs well without obvious excessive mechanical noise or belching of blue or white smoke

then yes it's almost certainly worth more than $400. But that doesn't mean you won't likely find rust in other places or other mechanical things that it needs.

For me, that's a short answer.
