Mystic noise in back seat

For years hit a speed bump and the back parcel shelf flopped and drove me crazzy. Removed it many times insulated it with felt, added bolts to hold it down, nothing worked.

recent rain in San Diego and the back of my 70 1602 had a half inch of water. Back window leaking?

Sure enough in fact the back window seal was hard as a rock (40 years old!) and lose- but that lose? Soo lose that it was the window banging around in the gasket all these years that was making the racket.

I fixed it temporarily by wedging a thin stip of rubber into the seal then RTVing it in place. Real fix is of course a new seal but what fun is that.

Have fun

I like mystic over mysterious. I not only removed the rear parcel shelf trying to find it but allso removed the back seat (back and bottom) and shimmed the side windows, greased the trunkhinges and RTV'd the trunk seams. At the end it was sort of a maddening spiritual ghost like thing to me inhabbiting the back seat with no physical presence just maddening persistent noise.

Got to love these cars.
