"Motor Nord" catalog from 8/74 - ALPINA stuff.....

A really nice guy from Sweden sent me some stuff recently that I have only had time to read in the last week/two. "Fredrik" from Sweden has restored or rather made a highly specified replica rallye car complete with Schnitzer 20,4 16 valve engine. He was kind enough to send me quite a few photo's which I will post up to my blogs in the near future. In the mean time I picked out a few pages of the catalogue stuff that actually went into my ALPINA GRp. 2 car, I was really (REALLY) surprised to see that they had a catalog offering for a 4 valve motor (which was the ALPINA engine with a Schnitzer cylinder head). Very interesting.

About that tank advertisement. It says something like

"Racing tank setup, 2 parts, 90 or 100 liters with additional tank (?) made of aluminum with fast lock, large breathing system, very fast filling.

One part tank setup for racing use - please ask. "

I'm sure Fredrik can give you better translation but there's not much info.

Mark,

On the Motor Nord engine I just remembered I have seen a picture somewhere that they even created their own valvecover with the Motor Nord name on it in stead of Schnitzer. I don't recall if it was a picture from Fredrik or Lee.

On the wheels; you have got here 3rd and 2nd version of the same wheel. I've got sets of both. The most difficult to find however is the first version where the spokes are not joined by 2 as in the second version. You can find a picture of it in the famous Gert Hack book 'BMW's schneller machen'. The reason you do not find it often anymore is that these were really too fragile. Even the 2nd version was too fragile. I am quite confident I will never use my set on a track but only for photoshoot purposes... Be happy you didn't buy it... The 3rd version with the ring is the best.

Warm regards,

Tom

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
