wow... a year of roadfly 02 board in two pages...

the thread about bad advice got me looking for my original post about the "FAQ" idea (which I could not find) on roadfly, way before we even started working on this site. anyway, eventually my searching lead me to the current 02 forum over there. i was confused at first because in two pages it went from 12/31/09 to the 12/08/08 timeframe. i quickly realized what was going on, with sometimes many weeks in a row without a single post. CharlieR., we hardly knew yah... =p

and, we don't miss ya. i would like to extend my hand to you rob(whom i've never met) and steve(whom i have) in most sincere thanks and congratulations for this here board.

when i was banned from roadfly for a post plugging this site i never conceived the 2002faq would be the death knell of roadfly, at least for '02's. now, the faq is THE online '02 resource. i wonder your hubris is not greater ; )

and let me express me personal admiration for you since 2004. our politics are 180 but i aspire to your heart.

well thanks! as far as the board itself, that is all (or mostly) steve. my idea was just for a FAQ site which would keep those pesky over-asked questions OFF the board... at the time that board was roadfly, but with the new regime over there, the idea of an alternative message board quickly became "ripe" as they say. it just seemed obvious to combine the FAQ site with a message board system. Steve, being far more technically competent than I, ran with that idea and did the initial and "v.2" boards, although he had a lot of help with the version2 system from "php mike," among others... while he did the message board side, I worked with the initial authors and edited up their submissions for the first seven articles. (I may have even written or at least co-written one or two myself, i forget.) Thats how I spent the 02/02/02 weekend, in fact.... the rest is history...

they tried a similar "revolution" on the Porsche side, abandoning rennlist in favor of a new rebell board. but it never took. the "new" board gets about as much use as roadfly's 02 board and is dying (dead?) on the vine.

the reason being that the moderators there (rennlist) are not as bad as Chuckie was (is?) at roadfly, so the majority of users didn't feel the need to flee. but I watched with interest, wondering whether another FAQ was in the making.

point being, we had a perfect storm to up and leave and create what we have here (que the six million dollar man intro: "we can rebuild the 2002 board. make it better. faster. less like a stupid dictatorship.").
