I got shafted!! (drive shaft question)

Ok, yes I read previous posts. Here is my question. I am taking my shafts to a buddy to install the new center support and bearing. I also ordered a new guibo (mine was cracked) When I am reinstalling the shafts I am looking and thinking I need to keep that center Star looking nut loose. The shaft is fixed length and I assume i will mount it at the rear, mount it at the front (insuring it is perfectly parallel with the guibo), mount up the center support and THEN tighten down the center nut???

if i pretighten the center nut (which holds the 2 shafts together)I may pull the drive shaft to short and wear out the guibo quickly. Man, why is that center nut even there?

I'm not as dumb as I look

Steve....Yeah, I'll speak to Nick

Hey, Nick.....Consult with the local TX2002 network first.

Keep your friends close and your enemy's even closer...Wait, that didn't come out right...I mean consult with your local crew first and we might just come over and lend a helping hand or two or four or six...Something like that!

for 99.3% of us, crank the snottage out of the nuttage

and sure, use loctite, but it won't save you if things

start to loosen- it'll just keep the nut around.

We are the people who need that thin box- end wrench.

For the other .7% of us with slidery shafts (a la E30)

you do let it 'fit to length'

in your shop manual for installing the driveshaft and center support - there should be NO preload on the guibo, but the center support DOES have a preload. Preloading the guibo causes it to flex, which causes premature failure.....
