It goes to the vacuum nipple that comes off the side of your 32/36 ABOVE the throttle plate (butterfly). As long as the advancer works you should feel a significant improvement. Sometimes the hose has been removed and carb nipple plugged to eliminate a vacuum leak from a failed / ruptured advancer diaphragm. You probably will still need to check / adjust your timing. You'll definitely have to tweak it when you install Pertronix / MSD. And be sure to do ALL the above before you even THINK about installing you dual carb setup. You need the ignition system in PERFECT order when your carbs go on so that you don't install one "problem" on top of another.

The diaphragm has to be able to hold vacuum in order for it to pull on / rotate the breaker plate the points are attached to. The best way to see if it works (once you've got a length of hose) is to remove the distributor cap, plug the hose on the the advancer diaphragm, and suck through the hose as you would a soda straw. If the advancer is good you should be be able to see the breaker plate in the distributor rotate slightly but noticably. If it doesn't move at all or there's no resistance to your sucking on the hose the advancer is no good. I'm honestly not sure if replacement diaphragms are available or not. They ARE servicable without replacing the whole distributor.

I wouldn't be sure that just the vac advance will kill you that badly-

after all, I never use mine on the track!

And at last look, SOME were available, but there are about 20

different kinds... ask Blunt.

The vacuum advance is effective in advancing the timing when the throttle is closed enough so that it is influenced by manifold vacuum. The dist runs only on mechanical advance on WOT. So it may be your initial advance that is off also.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.
